Hi,

If I bought a Canon lens from another country on the net, would the warranty be valid here in the UK?

I bought a 28 - 135mm IS in Australia, and warranty was transferable, but that was back in 2004, dont know if its still the same.
 
Yes. Canon lenses (but not bodies) have an international warranty.
 
I am totally confused now. Just managed to speak to someone at Canon Uk and they said there is no international warranty. Is this because they don't want you to buy elsewhere as it is cheaper?
 
Cant find the UK version so dont know if it applies here, but heres the Australian T&C

"4. Canon offers an international warranty on non-digital Canon compact cameras, non-digital Canon SLR camera bodies, Canon lenses for all SLR cameras, Canon Speedlites and Canon photographic accessories only. If travelling overseas, the Customer may receive warranty service for those Products on these terms from members of the Canon Camera International Service Network. A list of those members is enclosed with the Product. The Customer must present this warranty card and the original proof of purchase to receive warranty service."

From what I gather Squitty, I could very well be wrong.

But from that paragraph, reading between the lines. An International Warranty only covers you if you are travelling outside the place of normal abode or country from which it was purchased.

ie. I bought my lens in Oz, and registered it there, had it went faulty when back here at home, then I'd have to say I was on hols to get it repaired.
 
Right I see what you are saying.

Has anybody bought a lens from another country and had to get it repaired or a get a new lens in the UK under the international warranty?

I'm sure some on here have had their imported lens repaired under warranty with Canon UK under a "goodwill gesture".
 
I've got stacks and stacks of Canon warranties. Here's what they say:

CANON PHOTOGRAPHIC PRODUCT INTERNATIONAL SERVICE NETWORK
Service of your Canon product will be provided at any of the listed authorized service facilities. Warranty service of products with international warranty certificate (with the Canon International Warranty System symbol) will be provided at the listed service facilities marked [with the symbol] in areas other than the country or region where the product was purchased. You must present your warranty certificate when requesting repairs during the warranty period. If no certificate is presented, or if the warranty does not bear the place and date of purchase, you will be charged the cost of the repairs.

Then there's a long list of Canon international subsidiaries, most of which have the symbol to denote that they participate in the international warranty scheme. The only ones which don't are in places like less-developed Asia, eastern Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

Note however that this is a UK/European warranty. It's pretty clear that if you buy your lens in UK/Europe, you can get it repaired under warranty pretty much anywhere. It does not necessarily follow that the same is true for lenses bought outside the UK/Europe.....
 
Indeed, lenses bought from HK or the US come with a different warranty card rather than the european one. Not a problem itself but you'll need proof of purchase within europe to get a repair under warranty.

Yep, thats what I thought, otherwise I wouldn't have bought lenses from Kerso.

I have phoned Lehmans in Stoke on Trent and they feel it's as above, that lenses have international warranty, whereas bodies don't.

They're gonna be calling me back. As soon as I have something official, I'll repost. I'm 99.9% sure they have international warranty.

Canon will repair any canon lens from anywhere in the world as long as you present the original receipt when claiming warranty, I'm speaking from experience as I have done it on numerous times, at canon HQ, fixation, Lehman's.

At their discretion they will also warranty repair imported DSLR, I know as I have had it done, as have a few others on this forum.

If your a CPS member its all irrelevant anyway as part of that system is for faster turn around of repairs anywhere in the world, warranty repairs included.

I have even had a lens warranty repaired without the receipt, as Canon will take the manufacture date of the lens and repair it under warranty upto 15 months from manufactures date, they allow the extra for storage and time sat on retailers shelves.

My advice is dont worry about it, put the receipt safe, and enjoy shooting.
 
Just got in and received a message from Lehmans on 1571.

Yep, covered under warranty in GB, no probs.

Thought so, the .1% was for a thought that maybe Canon have recently changed the warranties.
