Canon Lens Deal from Groupon

I noticed this as I'm on the lookout for a 55-250. It is sold by Photo Direct who have an ebay shop, the 55-250 is £12 cheaper on their ebay shop than on the Groupon. They also seem to have relatively high poor feedbacks on ebay, has anyone used them?

Lots of other online negative feedback found from a quick google.............

From their ebay feedback, goods appear to be coming from USA or other locations, so guess items could be "imports" - I wonder what vetting Groupon does of suppliers like this for their offers?

I would prefer to source a lens from a recognised supplier.

Be warned though.

Photo Direct is a grey black market dealer. So you won't get a UK warranty.

Plus, although they say their warehouse is in Surrey, they currently estimate 8 days for delivery. That sounds like they're actually shipping from Hong Kong. And that means you'd be liable for import duty (6.9%) and VAT on the import.

Better to buy from a legitimate UK supplier, I suggest.

Check out the this deal from Groupon The 24-105 L is a real good price.
Only 2 days left

Same as in first post.

This was up a few months back and was seen then as a good deal.

Might be useful if any tbat used the previous deal could comment on their experience.

I would suggest that a Groupon deal that offered a price that then had import duty a.d vat added was outside their UK business model given that they earn commission on sales. Would imagine HMRC woild be climing over their YingYang if they were promoting grey imports as a properly formed UK company. Falls into illegal trading.

Are you sure, I did a quick Google search on photo direct and it came back with an eBay company based in Surrey, I'm on the tablet so haven't done the whole drop box check thing but at first glance they look UK

Yes, I'm sure about that.

Yes, I'm sure about that too.

Well, obviously I don't know where they're shipping from, but I can't think of another legitimate reason why they would need 8 days to get it to you.

I think you should turn the question around. How sure are you that they're legit?

lol, calm down!

I don't - thats why I said are you sure.

Eight days could be because they have to go through Groupons admin process, no idea - however the item I looked at on their eBay site said 1-3 days delivery, now HK can be quick, but one day?

Now, there are these towels on Groupon too - they've the same delivery time - should I hold back on ordering them? ;)
