Anyone had the red ring on a canon camera come off? If so, what's the best solution to stick it back on please?

Do NOT use glue, some people tried it and ended up with glue going into the tube and the a very expensive repair was the only way to fix.

Put it somewhere safe, and forget about it until selling the lens :P

It doesn't effect the functionality of the lens, it would be low on my priority list to be fixed tbh.

If I were to use glue, I would only think about a light smear of Pritt and wipe with a damp cloth. However, there must be a 'correct' way to do it????????

How about a red elastic band instead? It is only for cosmetic purposes after all.

Personally, I'd just forget about it and live with the incognito look.

Thanks for the three replies from those who don't know the answer.

I'm the sort of person who likes things in the right place and not just it.

So does anyone know the answer to this please.

Suppose the only way would be take it to a canon service center if you want it done properly. Happened to one of my friends, well, the whole end of his 70-200 came loose aswell, and they fixed it all up....

Do a search on Google....there are numerous cases of this happening.....seems like you have to have the barrell replaced if you want a new red band at some cost.

Thanks Rob, may well have to do this.

Thanks David. Sounds very drastic.

I dont own an L lens and don't see a time in the future when I might be able to afford one.
But surely the entire point in having an L lens is so other people know you have an L lens. Otherwise what is the point ;)

The very last important thing about the lens is some stupid decorative strip. I could only praise Nikon for not doing a similar nonsese

Such a great wealth of knowledge out there!

The red ring isn't available separately, it comes with the barrel so unfortunately you're looking at a very expensive repair if you send it off.
I'm amazed someone hasn't cottoned on and made 'stretchy' replacements yet. ;)

Dragons den, here we come :D

Hehe, I can't imagine anyone getting rich off it but if someone could get a manufacturer to make a batch up I'm sure they'd shift a few. ;)

Happened to me on my 24-105 which then developed a fault. Fixation fixed the fault and also kindly put a new red L ring on the lens. I didnt even ask them too, cost on the invoice was about £5/6 or so.

Thanks Guys. I have now managed to sort it out and it's back in place. May try Fixations if it comes off again James, thanks for the name.

How did it come off in the first place? It must have snapped somewhere and if so how did you manage to put it back without some kind of glue? Would be interesting to know when one of my Red rings decide to come off ;)
