Hi there Guys,

can anyone tell me if there is much difference between the canon 70-200 is usm and the usm or for that matter the sigma 70-200 2.8

I do mainly portraits full frame camera 5d mark 2 like doing close ups but quite a bit of movement in the studio.

For studio I'd go for f/4 (IS if you can stretch but non-essential). I really love mine for that - very sharp and fast. The lower weight feels much better. f/2.8 is only really *needed* for weddings, reportage and other low light stuff. Scrap Sigma, it is not as sharp, but their next OS version might be very interesting.

i've done tests with a friend who has the 2.8 IS against my Siggy and can't tell the difference, and in some cases he thinks the Siggy is sharper..

I was amazed by the sharpness of the Sigma 70-200 I bought not long ago. I had heard lots of reports of softness at 200mm but I'm very happy with mine. I'll post an example tonight when I'm home.

F2.8 is great for shallow depth of field work and my 70-200 F2.8 Sigma is sharp.

What would you do if money was not an issue?

If money is not an issue it's gotta be the Canon 2.8 IS. it'll hold it's value better in case you ever sell it...and of course, it's a fabulous lens.
