Hi All,

After always getting asked for my photos on canvas and resorting to using an external company to print and making their own 'markup' i have been looking in to printing them myself and framing.

I am very handy so i don't see any major issues doing it my self.

I'm looking at getting a Canon ipf 6100 printer, does anyone have any words of wisdom or comments using this printer and doing it my self?

External will be less hassel and can get bigger sizes. Largest an a3+ printer would do a canvas is 16x11 inches since you have to wrap 19x13 around a frame.

Can the canon printer do custom sizes longer than 19 inches? If not you'll not be able to feed canvas through.

It prints A1 so 24 inch, yes i get about the canvas wrap so will drop to about 20inch width but unlimited length (well to a degree)! Long panoramic!

but if i print on to Photo paper roll i could do the whole 24 inch..

well i have bought it now so we shall see how it goes.

To be honest it is probably easier to outsource. You will have to do a lot of canvases to make it worth while. By the time you have bought ink, bars, canvas, varnish, decent stapler, staples, tape etc it all adds up. A 24 inch printer is good enough to do a 20 inch wide canvas allowing for the wrap and enough to grab hold of to stretch. Anything bigger than that and I use a 44 inch printer.
