It puzzles me as to why they did not add this feature on the present 30D/40D models.
In their previous 35mm film range IIRC it was a feature on the more advanced cameras such as the EOS 10 and was not featured on their budget models, the EOS1000 for example.
Today the reverse applies and it is a feature only on their budget models 350D/400D.
I know you can buy a plug in accessory if this feature is required but having owned an EOS10 film this was a neat feature using only the RC1 remote.

I'm currently awaiting one of these : http://SPAM/22he5y
from Ebay

Looks Ok, but it would have been nice not to have the big 'dongle' hanging out of the side of the camera.

I've got one of those for each of my Canon cameras john-oh you won't be disappointed.

I found the infrared RC1 pretty crap when I had the 350D. There appeared to be many light conditions which seemed to interfere with it (the manual suggests this is possible but not to the degree it actually happens!)

BTW if anyone wants one, make me an offer - it doesn't work with my 30D
