canon image quality

RAB2000 that's the best subtle dig I've seen in ages!

I'm going to post some clearly unacceptable photos of grass later, shot on a Bayer sensor!

to me image quality matters more for the work I do ..and as for going out I go all around the world taking photos..all im saying is lets see better quality files...no bayer sensor comes near the Merrill and I have had the sony a7r ,Nikon d800e etc etc with zeis glass and its now all gone purely for the fact I cant stand the way the files look...yes if I needed fast focus it would be my 1dx with the canon 85mm 1.2 but that just sits in the cuboard

Hi,

I hope you do not mind me asking, I am new to photography and I was looking at various cameras to use for some up coming travels. I came across this thread and signed up as one of the cameras that came up in various articles I have read mention the Sigma Merrill.

I would like to see some of your world travel photos that have been taken with the Sigma Merrill and some that you have taken when you have been travelling with the 1DS please.

I apologise to anyone reading this but as I am new I am still trying to get my head around ISO, aperture and so forth.. but I understand that higher ISO than 400 mentioned in previous comments is acceptable and used in situations where you may be capturing faster moving objects in bad light or if you are shooting generally in bad light. It would be nice if Tray271 can post some general examples of some of the work she has done on her travels.

All this camera talk confuses me.

best regards,

Peter.

Have a look at the forums over at Luminous Landscape, there are some DP fans over there. Here's one thread...

Thank you for taking the time to reply, I will check that site out. I am also interested in how the Merill performs as a general out and about camera, so for example family shots on the beach so would be nice to see some examples of those as well.

There are some reviews on YouTube which may give you some idea how these cameras handle, like this one...

From the outside looking in it seems to me that the image quality is very good but the cameras maybe aren't the best tools for fast action and should maybe be used very deliberately.

I suffer from paranoid delusions in which I imagine that assorted industry insiders infiltrate forums to promote their products, or to down-talk competitors' products.
Hi-Fi forums in particular trigger these episodes.

I'm seeing my doctor tomorrow. Right now I'm going to count the blades of grass in the picture of a horse in a meadow I took yesterday.

If you can see individual blades of grass I take it you're not a Canon shooter?

I can see individual blades of grass.

It's easy to achieve.

I'm confused?

I have just watched the video posted above, didn't understand some of the numbers mentioned in it, but I take it from the levels of sarcasm and lada hat that the although the camera has nice images it is not all that practical to use. Tray271 must spend a lot of time in her hotel room charging batteries.

They do joke about a bit :D I think you've probably got the gist but still probably need some first hand user feedback.

There's a thread on this forum. Here it is...

Maybe if you post in it some of the owners will give you some honest advice. Good luck.

getdpi.com other photography section has good merril stuff

vs a dslr u get super image quality, quieter shutter by alot, faster sync speed for flash, smaller, lighter camera

downsides of battery life, no viewfinder, slow focus, bad low light performance, cant change lenses, people might not look so great in super detailed results, having to use sigma pro photo. bit slow at times. video looks like vhs or worse.

but u can work around some of those things and they are fun to use, plus having some stupidly good camera thats as small as it is, in all its better than anything canon* has ever made glory amuses me :)

*in certain area's, and at time of writing.

Because that really mattered to Andreas Gursky. How much did he get for Rhine II, $4.5m?
Sometimes I think people get fixated on the equipment, rather than what it's designed to produce.

It was sarcasm! :)
