Hi everyone, I'm asking this question for a freind as he has just bought a canon 1000d and I know nowt about canons (I have directed him to the site and he will be joining soon). What he wants to know is does the Sigma 70-300 f4-5.6 apo macro super dg lens have image stabilisation. Any input would be appreciated.

No, it doesn't.

Sigma 70-300mm DG Macro Zoom Lens is Capable of macro photography. It has a 1:2 maximum close-up magnification at the 300 mm focal_length.It is an ideal lens for portraitures, sports photography, nature photography, and other types of photography. Sigma 70-300mm also has a switch for changeover to macro photography at focal lengths between 200mm and 300mm with a maximum close-up magnification from 1:2.9 to 1:2. An SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass in lens optics group provides excellent correction of chromatic aberration. The multi-layer lens coating and special lens design reduces flare and ghost effect. Sigma 70-300mm Lens has the ability to optmise colour balance by correction of colour aberrations. The SLD glass elements corrects for fluctuation of aberration due to focusing. Sigma 70-300mm DG Macro Lens offers high optical performance throughout the entire zoom range.

Hi Dave,

I think Sigma use the prefix OS for Optical Stabilisation on their range so if it has that in the title, it should have image stabilisation. If not, then it's doubtful.

Sorry, forgot to add that you need one with OS in the title!

Thanks for the replies, he's going mad trying to find one with OS but there proving to be expensive.

Why Sigma? I bought the Canon 55-250mm IS lens and its a belter! They can be had for £150-£170 new. The 70-300mm IS USM is around £350-400, 2nd hand about £300ish.

they are both great - but he may want the macro part.

Why? It's almost useless! (the macro part I mean) I had one!

There's a 55-250 IS for sale on the forum HERE

No it doesn't need to be macro but ideally 300mm
