Hi - has anybody come across the following problem ?
Canon G9 Camera - Every time I power up the camera it requires the date & time setting to be done. I can - obviously - ignore this, but consequently all the pictures taken will have a anno 2075 date tag on them. I have also tried to reset the camera to it's factory settings... no joy there either.
Any ideas ?
Thanks
Stefan

Sounds like a nasty old fault to me. It's as if some sort of ROM or battery failure is causing it. Still under guarantee?

That doesn't sound good. I am happy to say that it is not a problem I have with mine...

Hope you can get it sorted easily and inexpensively.

Hi,

The date and time etc, are held in a separate non volatile memory, which is powered by a small button battery. When the battery goes flat, and you start up the camera, because the camera can't find this information, I'm guessing that the OS thinks that the camera is new, and this info needs inputting. I'm fairly certain that if this battery is replaced, everything should go back to normal. Because this information is missing, it's likely that the camera has already set all functions back to default, which is why you can't change anything. This little battery is user serviceable.

It's not user servicable on the G9, not inside the battery compartment like on Canon's DSLRs.

Hi Thanks for your 'concerns' and advice !
I'll take it to a canon/camera shop and see if they can see to it.
It is still under warranty and it should be ok - I'll let you know if it is something stupid...
Thanks again
