Yes
Whilst on holiday last week my G9 (which up to this point had given me stirling service) went pop, or rather it didn't go pop or do anything else. I've since found out it is a fairly common fault caused by 2 small screws under the ISO adjustment knob coming loose, falling out and shorting out one of the main boards (should they come into contact with one).
This post is 2 fold really, 1) if you have a G9 should you take it apart and have look to see if the screws are loose? 2) I've ordered a new board from a place in the states but I wondered if anybody on here had had a similar problem and managed to fix it or get it fixed in the UK?

Yes I have had the same problem with mine over the weekend. :( I used it on Friday and then when I went to try and review my images it just won't power up at all. I 'googled' the problem and it seems there are lots of G9 owners in the same scenario. Needless to say I am unhappy as it is only 2 years old. I am planning to write to canon and identify the problem and see if they take a flexible approach to warranty, but from what others have said it doesn't seem as though they do!

Did you take yours apart in the end?

Yes I did and sure enough the fault was exactly as described, a small screw had worked loose and short circuited one of the boards, waited ages for the replacement board board to arrive from US (gave up finally) and fixed mine with another broken G9 used as spare parts (and locktited everything securely this time) Good Luck
