A mate is thinking about buying a Canon G8 as he doesn’t want to lug a DSLR around.
Is it any good?
And can anyone confirm that it will shoot RAW and JPEG simultaneously?

The G8 is a gathering of the heads of states of the 8 most important / rich countries on earth. Currently having a shindig in Japan.

The G9 is the current G model - will shoot RAW and JPG. The older G7 couldn't do RAW.

Supposedly very good.
 
Dunno about the G8 but the G9 will. I guess the best option would be for your mate to check out a review. I know there is one on the dpreview website and there may be one on here to.

Most people seem to think that the G9 is a good upgrade so could be a better option.
 
The G9 is an excellent camera, your friend could do a lot worse. As said it will shoot both Jpg and Raw, it has full manual and has 12 mega pixies on the sensor :)
 
Gonna get the G9 myself, probably gonna order it tomorrow!

It's a great little compact, my friend bought one a while ago and I had a play, it's easily the best compact I have ever used, I love the manual controlls.

Planning to use my 430ex with off-camera cable as it has a hotshoe.
 
Just got the underwater case for the G9 today. Going to try it out at the beach on me hols.

Who wants to bet that it leaks on the first day leaving me with no camera for the week lol?

I love the G9 (or rather my wife does, I prefer my 1DmkIII)
 
I've been weighing one up for a while. Mainly to stop the missus stealing my 30d. ;)
