Well,
My G1X arrived yesterday from the lovely people at Panamoz
Have to say im very, very impressed so far by my first impressions. But then im not a professional and just enjoy taking photos, and occasionally getting a good one!
Build quality feels good, not too heavy or bulky (my lass finds it fine). Comfortable to hold and use. Dials are all fine and accessible.
So far taken indoor (peeing down here last night) pics of various things and also my 8 month old child - which the camera managed to focus on with no real problems - dunno whether its my lack of knowledge/experience about fast focus on high end DSLR's, but i just dont see why the camera is getting so pillored for its sluggishness so far?
Surely if it can pick out a child in a bouncer with no problems then thats acceptable for most situations that this camera would be used for? Anyway it appears more than fine to this untrained eye, though please feel free to ridicule me if im wrong
It appears to take some pretty damned good pics - but its only first impressions from last nights play, so its early days and i havent played about anywhere near enough with it yet! Though my lass disagreed heavily last night about that - apparently coming in and playng with the camera for 3 hours was out of order
Can understand the problem about poor macro mode, but then i knew from the start that it wasnt capable of it, and i've only ever taken photos like that with the relevent lens! So i guess i would just have to buy the relevent filter ring and macro filter lens that someones has already posted some shots with somewhere - think it was on here somewhere?
So from a budding/bumbling amateurs point of view, the camera appears to do everything i thought it would do..... and it only cost me £509 rather than the £699 the robbing gits over here in England are trying to charge me.
And if i manage to get a decent pic i may even be brave enough to post it on here... then again i doubt it
