I have 2 canon 580 ex and 1 580ex mk ii flashguns.
I was using them on my 1d mk iii set to ETTL and hi speed sync for some sport shots when one by one they all stopped working correctly .
They were unable to shoot in ETTL so hi speed sync could no longer be used.
I had a pixel battery pack attatched also.
NOw i cannot set any of the flashguns even off the camera to Ettl althpough all other modes work.
any ideas what could be causing this.

Welcome to TP :)

There's a known problem with Canon 580 guns when you hammer them in HSS mode. Pocket Wizard put out a paper on it, if only becuase they seemed to be getting most of the blame. I have a hunch the new 600EX guns might have fixed it.

I've never experienced it, but as far as I know it results in total failure so maybe this is not your problem. Here's the PW paper http://lpadesign.com/580EXII.pdf

AAMOI, HSS works in both ETTL and Manual modes. Not that it helps this situation.

You can't select ETTL mode on the flashes or it doesn't seem to be picked up as ETTL by the camera?

If it's the latter, and both do the same thing, then I'd suggest it may be an issue with your hotshoe.
