I know exactly what he's talking about - I have a Sigma 8mm which is how I know it has no hood! The lens cap has a removeable centre which allows screw in filters to be used on the lens when it's on a crop body. On a Nikon crop, the vignetting is horrible - I'm not a fan of the diagonal fisheye look (IMO, it looks like a very badly distorted UWA image) but I'd rather that than the pseudo round fisheye look the inner cap removal gives! My Sigma 12-24 has the same arrangement as far as a 2 part cap goes - again, the vignetting on a Nikon crop isn't nice but at least that lens doesn't distort, Of course, on FF bodies, both lenses perform as designed. Both Sigma hoods are good and tight fits over the body of the lens (8mm) or the permanently attached hood (12-24mm).
