Canon FF tonal quality

i don't want to get into a FF v cropped sensor debate, but I only recently acquired a 5D Classic/mark I, having only owned cropped cameras before, but in my opinion the tonal quality, in decent conditions, is much better that from my 7Dii. The AF system on the 7DIi is much better but for landscape and portraits the 5D is very good. Do the current FF frame cameras eg 5Diii have the same tonal qualities as the 5Di?

If not, does it matter given what can be achieved with cc?

I'm not sure you'll get a definitive answer TBH as tonal qualities are more subjective rather than something measurable like dynamic range. Tonal quality is something that you can't quite put your finger on but you know if you like it. It maybe worth hiring a 5D3 and deciding for yourself.

All the image quality benefits of full-frame over smaller formats are derived from the physically larger sensor area, rather than the number of pixels as is commonly supposed.

If you like the Canon 5D MkI, you will only get more of all the good stuff with a newer generation full-frame sensor, though depending on your priorities and usage the benefits may be more incremental than the difference you see between the 5D1 and 7D2.
