Canon FF mirrorless...

The vloggers should wait.
My guess is Sony will knock these new mirrorless vlogging type bodies for six with the announcement of their Sony A7S III.
I think it will be the worlds first full-frame mirrorless body to record 8K with a global shutter and 5m pixel OLED EVF. :D Boom!

No ibis, 4k crop is 1.6x, no 120p in 1080p, no continuos eye af. Declicked is a minor issue compared to the others I've listed.

Oh I agree, but we kind of already guessed those ones pre-announcement. I was still on board if the price was right, the click ring thing doesn't apply to me in any way - I would probably set it to aperture and just leave it at that. But charging a fee ... and not even being shy about it :D that's not going to go down well with the Casey Neistat wannabes ... unless of course he raves about it and says he's getting one because it'll be the best vlogging camera evah!

I think an A7 is the closest thing there's going to be to a bargain FF camera. Isn't it the cheapest FF camera?
Correct, pair it with the Zeiss 35mm f2.8 and Zeiss 55mm f1.8 and you have a very good, small and light setup.

And that's what I have :D Plus the kit lens and 85mm f1.8 and a couple of native mount Voigtlanders and I don't know how many film era primes :D

I've just noticed how expensive the 5DIV still is, based on this the price of the EOS R doesn't sound too bad. For £700 less you sacrifice frame rate, buffer, dual card slot and weather sealing. For me I'd rather pay the extra £700 for those things, but the R doesn't seem too overpriced compared to the rest of the Canon line up (not comparing it to Sony). The lenses still look pricey, even comparing it to Canon EF lenses.

Out of curiosity, does anybody care about 8k video? Really? I mean, 4k is still really a minority format. And for vlogging? Really?

It's more useful for photography than it is for video. 8K stills capture mode is very useful, you get 30fps and can pull 20mp+ stills from it [atm some cameras have 6K modes like this that can pull 18mp files]

It could lead to a lot of pictures to wade through and choose from though. I sometimes take two pictures and choosing between them is bad enough.

You do that in camera, I can do it on my little G80 in 4K mode. It's a much quicker process than you might think. Slide through the video clip, it flicks through the stills rapidly, find the point you want, tap through the stills, keep the one you want, save.

Uk pricing. Ouch:

Body only:

$2299
£2349

28-70:

$2999
£3049

50/1.2:

$2299
£2349

Yup, posted the UK pre-order prices earlier.

UK pre-order prices are out folks.

Canon EOS R Digital Camera with 24-105mm f4 IS Kit = £3,269
Canon EOS R Digital Camera with EF Adapter = £2,349
Canon RF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM = £1,119
Canon RF 28-70mm f/2 L USM = £3,049
Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 IS STM Macro Lens = £519.
Canon RF 50mm f/1.2 L USM = £2,349

It ok, I will keep posting it every so often to remind others too... the prices are WTF  lol

Aye the pricing makes the APSC M line look more attractive. More than I'd need if I'm honest, the new 35 1.4M looks tasty for it.

These prices are a total rip off!

Canon make ink jet printers and sell them for under £60! These cameras and lenses should also be under £60!!

Sorry :D I couldn't resist :D

I've been reading stuff like that about Sony and DVD players for years :D

The good old days:LOL:

Just noticed that the 28-70mm f2 doesn't have IS. £3049 and no IS???????

A7 is definitely a bargain plus the prices of the D600 have come down to under £600 which is great value for a camera (which if it's been cured of the sensor spots issue) that has the same brilliant 24MP sensor as the D750.

Just wait till March next year. It will be about double then!

Body is cheaper than 5DIV but to be honest I know which one I'd much rather have right now.

28-70/2 and 50/1.2 combo makes an extremely attractive proposition but only until you see the price tag and evaluate your bank account statement. I'm 100% out on this for now.

First gen body was expected to be lacking and it is. Showstoppers for me would be Low res EVF (come on, FULL HD is a must), only a single SD card slot (yeah, I'm totally risking loosing a day's paying job and a customer), new and untested technology in general, probably way too small but it is hard to say.

Right now a heavily discounted 5DIV or 5DsR would be just the thing for me but seeing those prices I am not holding my breath.
Maybe I'll bag a very cheap Sony a7III as a backup in the photography show next year. It looks like a more versatile proposition.

I have my best kidney for sale on flea-bay so I can get the 28-70.

56 watchers but no bids.

"the EOS R can shoot continuously at 8 fps in AF-S and 5 fps in AF-C 'shooting speed priority' mode. If you want to use 'tracking priority' mode in AF-C the frame rate drops to just 3 fps"

another ouch.

Oh, and another bonkers prices:

Canon EF 400mm F2.8L IS III USM
$12,000
£11,999

Canon EF 600mm F4L IS III USM
$13,000
£12,999

:D

are they 4 X as good as mk1 used versions??!! I guess not.

Well there is the case for my own price increases. I will just show this to my clients next time.

Counts both this and the Nikon out for me as both pretty poor.

Maybe they will have a more action based camera later down the line.

But at least it has made my direction clear cut!

:D Yeah the Sony A9 is a very good body. ;)

Yes, I am so close to consider A9 + 400mm 2.8 to be honest... but whilst waiting for the Sony 400mm 2.8 FE, I am vary about the performance of the adapters (MC-11 or MB V) on AF tracking and ability to use 20fps on adapted lenses.

That 28-70 reminds me of Pentax's 55-100 for their 67 medium format cameras. Bloody huge (they're similarly sized and have the same filter diameter), yet somehow really compelling even compared to 3x primes. The Canon is even heavier and I definitely feel the weight of the Pentax after a day's shooting. Might have something to do with the huge 67 body as well though.

ONE company needs to have the balls to make a FF ML camera for the budget shooter, I'm disappointed is all, it seemed like Canon might just do it. But even those with plenty of money are saying this is over priced. They do not back it up with the goods, not this time. Now the Nikon is looking more attractive.

One does already... The Sony A7 full frame and was available for around £550 recently hard to get a better bargain full frame mirrorless than that
