Canon FF mirrorless...

UK pre-order prices are out folks.

Canon EOS R Digital Camera with 24-105mm f4 IS Kit = £3,269
Canon EOS R Digital Camera with EF Adapter = £2,349
Canon RF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM = £1,119
Canon RF 28-70mm f/2 L USM = £3,049
Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 IS STM Macro Lens = £519.
Canon RF 50mm f/1.2 L USM = £2,349

The 28-70 F2 is a headline lens, hence the ridiculous price. In comparison, the existing 24-70 F2.8L IS lens is a solid proven workhorse lens that's £1700 RRP. Will people pay nearly double the price for a minimal improvement in aperture and give up 4mm at the wide end just because it's slightly smaller and they follow the headlines?

Im happy with the spec. Its really nice to see a fast SD card slot, i don't think any of the other Canons have this, not even my 5D4 (even though they do work, at a reduced rate).

So yeah, ill be selling the 5D4 and getting one of these later in the year (grey of course ;-). If nothing else its a move sideways, but with the cool features i like in my M50.

Obviously thats all subject to seeing some real world reviews, but on paper its ideal for me.
awsome! welcome to teh FF mirrorless world!

IF i was still a canon 5d4 shooter i dont think i woild be tempted by this because it doesn seem to be on par with the 5d4. Its more of a 6d2 with a 5d4 sensor on it.

Interesting times ahead. Its panasonic/fuji turn now!

I am very excited because now its not just canikon dominating FF camera's but now others are on it. competition is good and you should all be excited about this.

Who says dedicted camera's are dead? hell no.

Its a though one...... :)

I can see many people choosing either Canon or Nikon over an A7III but I don't think it makes a lot of sense :D Even with legacy lenses unless looking at several £k to swap systems I just can't see these cameras making a lot sense over what looks to be the better and cheaper A7III.

The Canon brand and marketing will prevail though :D

Looks huge as well

adapting lenses will never be good as native lenses.

Its just a stop gap.

Anyways when do you think canikon will kill off there DSLR?

Me? I think they're secretly thinking "How can we kill off this pesky mirrorless thing?" I doubt either Canon or Nikon will go the way of Kodak but I suspect they're as pleased to be going mirrorless as Kodak was to see the rise of digital.

I assume you don't shoot sports or BIF etc?

UK pre-order prices are out folks.

Canon EOS R Digital Camera with 24-105mm f4 IS Kit = £3,269
Canon EOS R Digital Camera with EF Adapter = £2,349
Canon RF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM = £1,119
Canon RF 28-70mm f/2 L USM = £3,049
Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 IS STM Macro Lens = £519.
Canon RF 50mm f/1.2 L USM = £2,349

And folk complained at the price of Nikon lenses  Surely they're taking the p*** with the 50mm and 28-70mm?

It will be interesting to see how the Canon RF 28-70mm f/2 L USM performs against the Sony 24-70mm f2.8 G Master give the large price difference.... some will argue the Canon is f2.0 vs f2.8. :)
So what, I'd rather have the extra 4 mm at the wide end and the extra £1200 in my back pocket

Scary prices, I suspect that they may have reduced the price of their body to try and compete with the Sony A7 III but then increased the prices of the lenses to balance things out.
Sony have squeezed both Nikon and Canon to react and really pushed their own prices down to make life difficult for them.
Imagine if the Sony A7 III was priced at £2499-£2999, would things be different?
From what I am being told, the Sony A7 III bodies are flying off warehouse racks faster than they can get them in. They are selling like hot cakes :D lol

Yeah true and I think the G logo is nice stuck on the side... looks Pro! lol :D

Not really, although on occasions i have no issues doing it with any of my cameras.

To put it in perspective. my 5D4 is almost permanently in silent high speed mode, so around 3.5 fps i believe, but even in high speed mode it looks liek the R is better specified for this. I never use BBF. The R has 8fps and a larger buffer by the looks of it, so its a more capable camera than what i have now, and i dont struggle at all with what i have now.

My M50 has enough features to allow me to get rid of my 5D4, other than the IQ is better from the 5D4, plus i like having FF and crop.

Definitely not interested in the lenses though.

I just want to take photographs and my current camera is quite good at that (even if it has got a pesky mirror in the way :D) :)

I'm still trying to get my noodle around the 28-70mm f2. £3049???? Is that a typo??????

Canon 28-70mm f2 £3049
Sony 24-70mm f2.8 GM £1800
Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 £799
Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 VR £1900
Canon 24-70mm f2.8 £1739

No it's not apples with apples comparison, but seriously £3049???????????????

Its a L lens innit :D
L = £

Canon 400mm 2.8 II @ 3.85kgs £9,499
Canon 400mm 2.8 III @ 2.84kgs £11,999
Sony 400mm 2.8 FE @ 2.895kgs £10,500

For sure Canon has matched their latest 400mm with Sony but they also learnt the way Sony pricing scheme too :(

Now it makes Sony A9 + 400mm FE 2.8 very attractive!

Anyway, UK pricing is killing... going to get this from USA or Asia later this year. Did Canon say when it is available?

There's a mk3 of the 400mm?

correction

Performance-wise, the EOS R can shoot continuously at 8 fps in AF-S and 5 fps in AF-C 'shooting speed priority' mode. If you want to use 'tracking priority' mode in AF-C the frame rate drops to just 3 fps.
