Canon FD 'Close up' tubes, anyone looking for some?

I just dropped into my local charity shop on my way home and whilst this place often has old cameras, nothing dong today, but they did have something that might be of interest to someone in here. First off I will say they were in the window and the shop was heaving with only one guy serving, so I haven't been able to look closely, it seemed a bit unfair to ask knowing I wouldn't be buying them myself, but if anyone is interested, happy to pop back over for closer inspection.

In a leather wallet they have a set of what was described as Canon FD/FL mount close up lenses. Now I think what they mean is extension tubes for macro work and whilst I have heard of FD mount, no idea what the FL bit is about? They looked in fairly tidy condition but that is as much as I can tell you, other than they only wanted £3.50 for them.

So, if anyone has an FD mount camera, which I am given to believe, not being a canon girl myself, is the older style mount found on 35mm film cameras, and is interested, give me a shout and I shall go have a closer look for you.
 
FL is a slightly older version of FD, also known as barrel-lock or breech-lock because you turn a ring to lock the lens in place.

FD is the last Canon manual-focus mount before they moved to EOS. I'd be interested, I'm only aware of an extension tube that came with the 100mm f/4 macro lens so would like to know more :)
 
NO worries, will have a closer look either Monday morning or worse case, Tuesday morning as I will be going next door to opticians anyway for eye test. They close ay 5 today and don't open sundays, so unless someone has been in in the last hour or two, should still have them
 
They may be close-up lenses rather than just tubes, ie have actual glass in there. I have one that goes on the front like a filter and one that goes between body and lens. Not sure whether the results were just awful or completely diabolical in this case (PK fit). Appeals to the inner Holga?

Possibly, I have absolutely no idea, it really is an area of photography I have never ventured into, but will pop in and if they still have them, grab a few phone photos too, as well as getting and numbers and names off them and checking general condition. I figured at £3.50 they might be of interest to someone and happy to send them on.

there was definitely a set of Canon FD extension tubes - they're mentioned in the A-1 manual page 90, along with the bellows adaptor and lots of other close-up gubbins...
 
I'll re-read my T90 manual, I should have known that. It's Chris's fault, putting me on this one camera thing has blunted my FD fetish.
 
I didn't say Chris didn't get the idea from you in the first place.

the A-1 manual doesn't actually mention the "dioptre lenses" - so i'm not 100% sure if there were any "proper" canon ones - most of the cheapie "close up" lenses are just a single lens in a filter ring and aren't generally up to much - however I remember (going slightly off topic) having the Bronica CUL-1 and CUL-2's which were pretty damned good - though iirc they weren't a single lens - i'm fairly sure they were both achromatic doublets...

oh - a quick trawl of fleabay appears to throw out quite a few genuine Breechlock FD extension tubes - the genuine Canon ones seem to be going for around £10-25 EACH tube... a set of three Vivitar Canon-FD fit jobs however are more like £25-30 for the full set (12,20 & 36mm)
 
I've seen a few of the FD/FL sets for under £10 lately, one of those was from a charity at £3.95 then you have to add on the £3.95 p&p. I have been told by someone they have a Canon A1 and lots of lenses I can have. It sounds like a good kit and may include tubes which is why I haven't bought any yet.
 
Right chaps, had a proper look at them, they are extension tubes, not close up lenses, so no glass in them, made by Vivitar though, not Canon, in very good condition in a leather type wrap round pouch - 36mm, 20mm and 12mm in size. I have some phone photos if anyone wants to see them.

I also actually bought a pair of apparently functioning light meters, a Weston III with instructions [useful, I have no clue how to use one] and a hanimex, so will test those both against one of the digital cameras as best I can and see how accurate they seem to be, then, might well sell one of them for what I paid in classies if anyone is interested. If not, will make nice cheap display items ;)
 
Thanks for the update, Yv. If they were Canon tubes I'd be interested but as they're not, I'll withdraw. At least your return trip wasn't a wasted journey! :)

no worries, wasn't wasted anyway, I was at the opticians next door having the eyes condemned to more specs :rolleyes:
