Morning Mike,
Sigma Japan contacted me this morning with an update. They have been carrying out some test and did not find any issues when used on the R series cameras, however they are going to continue their investigations. If they report any issues then I will contact you with an update.
Any problems please let me know.
Kind Regards
Follow up to the 150-600mm email to Sigma
It's good to hear that but it's apparent in Duade's video, it's definately hunting on the R7.
I got that too. I haven’t done the last one yet. I will give it a few weeks to see if it creates any issues before doing it.Just had an email there's a new Canon R6 firmware 1.6.0 .
Is there a new firm for the R7 ! ?
still waiting for my delivery !
Yeah, just a minor one.Is there a new firm for the R7 ! ?
still waiting for my delivery !
I suspect a grip will be issued by Canon in the near future at a stupid price and third parties will come onboard once they get a R7 to test.My friend ordered her R7 months ago, hoping to have it for the Commonwealth Games; fortunately, she did not trade in her camera at the point. of ordering so still has something to use at the athletics. I would have been interested had there been a grip. It's an odd decision not to do that but no doubt £££ is involved and some sort of tactics.
I watched this video over the weekend and Duade mentions the Sigma disclaimer right at the begining. I've not seen anything official yet but I would take Duade's word for it and according to him, Sigma have stated the lens isn't compatible with the R7, at least.

What’s the point of a grip if it can’t be held from that side and operate the camera?I think there will be some sort of grip to beef up the body a bit but as there are no contacts in the camera battery compartment I can't see there being anything else.
Saying that if you look at the RP "grip" it has 2 pins (as well as the tripod screw) which go into holes on the base of the camera, as does any other proper Canon grip.
The R7 doesn't even have the holes for any pins.
For me the Eye / Object Detect and IBIS is cheap technology for £1,349 !
I believe a lot of features were left off like pins for battery grip to encourage users to upgrade to R6 or R5
But if eye/object detect does not work with my Sigma 150-600 C it is no good for me.
For wildlife shooters the R5/R6 aren't an upgrade though (it's the reason I haven't bought another R5) and I am gobsmacked there is no grip especially if you look at how many users are crying out for one ... very unlike Canon to turn down an easy profit.
Personally I still think the R7 is a bit of an experiment to see if a better spec crop body would make money.
Anyway, still waiting patiently for mine .......
I've been searching for delivery updates on the R7, I even e-mailed the shop I have my pre order with and even they say they haven't heard anything off Canon yet.
Anyone?
I read on another forum the MKI Tamron works even worse than the Sigma and the II isn't much better.Anyone found any videos of r7 and Tamron 150-600?
I read on another forum the MKI Tamron works even worse than the Sigma and the II isn't much better.
Waiting to try my 150-600mm Sport version.
I am surprised Sigma have not either released a firmware update a bulletin that the 150-600 will not work on canon R cameras !
I would imagine that Canon know their market.very unlike Canon to turn down an easy profit.
Personally I still think the R7 is a bit of
I’m sure the amount of people buying the R7 and wanting a grip is quite low overall.
I’d bet that not every buyer or owner are posting on forums
Judging from the comments of people who have the R7 on Canon forums I would love a bet with you on that one
The R7 is predominantly a sports/wildlife camera (a small one at that) and the people who use such a body tend to want a grip.
Yep, no way of knowing the numbers. I bet there are more happy owners over the moaners, it’s the way of the internet. You think ?
They are even hacking old 20D (and others) grips to make them fit which to me is a bit extreme. At the end of the day don't buy it if you can't do without.
