Are you entering the TP MPB photo competition (Link)? These photos of the camera and lens are probably what they are looking for combined with the waterfall photo you took. The back of the screen photo is probably ideal from a brief view point as it shows the exact photo you took.

By the way the bird is a Dipper (y)

Glad everyone seems to be getting on well with the R7. Its definitely an enticing camera. I will be waiting until its available on the test drive before thinking about one (and the fact no one can really get hold of them!). A second body does open up other photo opportunities. The R7 and 100-500 could be a light weight birding combo. Birds is something I've stayed away from in the last few years as 400mm on FF was never enough after 900mm on Nikon crop (300mm f2.8 & 2xTC). If the R7 is a 1.6 crop then the 100-500 will give 800mm equivalent reach. Is the R7 a 1.6 or 1.5 crop?

I thought check the canon test drive website to see if the R7 was there (I wasn't expecting it to be there) but the RF 14-35 f4 is now available. I was a bit surprised as I'd joined the waiting list so thought I'd get an email or text to say its available. Thought I'd book it for a free hire at the start of August as I plan to go up to the Peaks for the heather so ideal time to test it out over a weekend. Just need to hope the weather plays ball now!

Not sure if you’ve ever used them, Rob
But the company called “lenses for hire” have the R7 for rental now.

Just in case you wanted options.

I’ve used them for lens hires in the past. Great hassle free company to use.

Canon’s are 1.6 crop by the way.

Thanks, its not a bad little camera.
Excellent shots. Nice to se images other than birds - although I appreciate why that might be.

Can I ask what sort of ISO's you were using for the tunnel shots please and whether you noticed much noise if trying to pull detail in the shadows

I’ve used lenses for hire in the past and they were great and really easy to deal with.

TBH I’m not in a rush to try a R7, I will likely wait until until after the early adopters price has dropped and stock is easily available. That’s likely to be a year away.

Thanks for the heads up ,entered.

Yes i used google lens on it, came up with white throated dipper, a nippy little thing it was!

Every shot ive seen from various forums, has been birds, i just wanted to try something else.

All shots were iso 100, mainly on the tripod, but the bloke on the bike in the tunnel was iso 6400 hand held.

Ive not really tried to pull the shadows much, it has noise at higher iso, but i dont really look into it much,

Compared with my R6 you cant pull them much.

I've not had this problem, my long lenses are all canon.

The problem only seems to be Sigma 150-600 C and I suspect the Sports model as well

A friend of mine has the R5 and adapts his EF 100-400L Mkii and that works fine !

Yes, it's a 150-600C issue (not sure on the Sport) and Sigma have issued a disclaimer about it.

Now I have the perfect excuse to get the 100-500 RF-L, when my R7 eventually arrives.

I don't think it's a huge issue though, I've managed without it until now, but that's besides the point I suppose.

Any chance you can point me in the direction of that disclaimer please Dale?

I watched this video over the weekend and Duade mentions the Sigma disclaimer right at the begining. I've not seen anything official yet but I would take Duade's word for it and according to him, Sigma have stated the lens isn't compatible with the R7, at least.

Ah ok, I saw that in the video yesterday so went looking for something from Sigma but can't find any announcement from them at all about it.

I know he had problem with it on the R5 and R6 plus others have said the same in the comments underneath ... I was just trying to find something concrete from Sigma about the C & S versions.

Yup, I just went looking too, as when I thought about it, I'd not seen anything concrete either.

Have to say, the 150-600C doesn't miss a beat on my 5Div, but that doesn't have animal eye AF and is of course, DSLR.

Just fired off an email to Sigma, they are normally pretty good when it comes to answering stuff like this so will post the answer here when I get one.

They were exellent with me recently when I needed a screw for my C. It was here within 2 days (+ 2 others), free of charge.

Thanks for the sharing, I would be interested in knowing their response as I could not find any thing on there website.

The pulsing issues is not a complete deal breaker as it means we will have more non sharp images, and will have to use mechanical 15fps shutter.
Of course on my 7Dii the 150-600C works like a dream and Mike P has quite rightly mentions that DSLR has no eye detect, and that is the main feature we want the R7 for ! ! ! lol

I certainly do not have 2.6k ish to drop on a RF 100-500L lens and if I did my wife will mention to me where is her deposit of 2.6k for her next car ! ! ! ? lol

Someone I know had to update the firmware on his Sigma to get it to play well with the R5. I’m not sure which version of the lens it was, (I could find out) and I believe he’s been happy with it since.

Thank you for the info :)

......at least they have stock.

Even after the conversion to GBP, it's just over £1.6k.

New firmware available on the Canon Hong Kong site for the R3 version 1.2.0

Firmware Version 1.2.0 incorporates the following enhancements and fixes:
1. Adds the ability to set "Custom high speed continuous" to the Drive mode. It is possible to shoot from 2 to 50 images continuously at a speed of approximately 30 to 195 fps.
2. Adds the ability to select "FHD 239.76 fps/200.00 fps" in "High frame rate."
3. 1- Adds the ability for in camera "Depth compositing" during "Focus bracketing."
2- Adds Focus bracketing and depth compositing with a flash (Speedlite EL-1).
4. Adds the ability of time-lapse movie recording. Note that the time-lapse movie setting is retained even if the camera enters the Auto Power Off state before starting time-lapse movie recording.
5. Adds the ability of Cloud RAW processing functionality. RAW processing with the latest image processing technology is possible. This is a paid service that requires the purchase of a Canon Imaging App Service Plan, which will be available starting July 25, 2022.
6. Adds the ability to convert multiple HEIF images into multiple JPEG images..
7. Adds the ability to set [Still Image Crop/Aspect] to [Custom Controls]. The assigned button can be used to switch between crop and aspect ratio.
8. Adds the ability to crop and resize images during transfer to an FTP server.
9. 802.1X authentication/WPA2-Enterprise now supports the PKCS#12 certificate format.
10. Adds an electronic shutter sound to be played when the mechanical shutter or electronic 1st-curtain is set.
11. Enhances the performance of "Movie Digital IS". It stabilizes the image when taking selfies or walking shots using a wide-angle lens.
12. Adds [Auto Power Off Temp.: Standard/High] to the menu for still shooting.
13. Fixes an issue, which displays Error Code 70 on the camera, that may occur, in rare instances, when the [Disp. performance] setting is set to [Smooth].
14. Fixes minor issues.

I was convinced it was a Sigma lens, but apparently it is a Tamron 150-600, so I’m sorry I’m mistaken. There was a firmware update for that lens which did make it work with the R5.

He also said he is having issues with his R5 and is going to get it fixed, which surprised me. He‘s going to pop round and I’ll find out more then. I shall let him try my 100-500 on his R5 as I do wonder if it could be related to the lens.

I believe all canon lenses will work find only third party lenses will have problems as canon did not release any data for RF mounts to said third parties.

He seems to think he has an issue with the camera, but I do wonder... I will explore further when I see him. I was having an issue with my R5 freezing whilst using EF lenses, but it hasn't happened in a long time, and I suspect that it was fixed with a firmware update. Just had a look and it was in May/June 2021 and I documented it in this thread.

I’ve been thinking of getting an UWA lens to go alongside the RF 24-105 I already have. I was thinking the RF 14-35 f4 would be the RF lens to go for but I’ve just seen there is now a RF 15-30 STM lens. It’s £669 so quite a bit cheaper than the 14-35 f4 but I’m guessing it wont be as good. it’s likely to be a lens I won’t use that often so lower cost would make sense.
