Hi guys and girls,

I made a quick search on here (and google) first but only found two similar problems from a few years ago but without the solution I need.

The problem: I removed the SD card from my Canon 500D at the weekend and when I went to put it back in it wouldn't lock/click into place, it just pushes against the spring and pops back out. I've tried just closing the compartment but it says "no memory card" so it obviously can't be tricked so easily. I've also tried a different SD card with the same result (just bouncing back against the internal pins).

I'm going on holiday soon so not enough time to get it fixed properly Has anyone else had this problem and how did you fix it? Can anyone offer a temporary workaround? The camera is out of warranty so does anyoine know the cost of a repair?

Someone on another forum suggested I could stick something to the inside of the door to hold it a bit further inside the slot which I will try tonight.

TIA

I had the same problem on my old 500d, took it into the Jessops where I bought the camera and they replaced it with a new one there and then as was under warranty and I was going away the next day (or at least that's what I told them).

That's some real bad luck, I had it happen in a Samsung P&S camera I had a few years ago and it was going to be more to fix than a new camera would cost. I would take it into a local camera shop and ask them, but if you have any house insurance it might be worth giving them a call too.

Hi

Might be worth giving Canon @ Elstree a ring tomorrow and see if they can offer any suggestions - I have a feeling it maybe a repair job though, if it is, they should be able to give you a price - may well come under a fixed repair price.

How much out of warrenty is it ?

It would be under 5 year warranty if camerabox hadnt gone bust last year :( otherwise how long is canon direct warranty? I think just one year, if so I'm outside of that by 1 year i think.

Hi

Yes Canon's warrenty is 1 year. Give Canon a ring and see what they can suggest...

Hope you can get it sorted
