Hi, I'm looking for some info if anyone could help please. I've just bought a Canon Eos M3 as a carry round camera, I generally use raw files but I am having trouble opening these with Canon DPP, has anyone any suggestions as to why this is occurring. Many thanks, John.

Is your Canon DPP up to date?

Could be that it needs an update to read the CR2s from the M3.

I am able to open raw files from my original M on both my DPP 3 and 4. As Neil says, check for updates.

I've updated the Canon software but still can't get it to to read the raw files, it recognises the files and I can see all the info but it won't display the image.

Which version of DPP are you using? I've got 4.3.0.0 and it opens my M3 CR2 files no problem.

It will be because your DPP is out of date. Check on properties to see which version you have. If you can't update from within DPP the latest version is on Canon's web site.

Hi all, thanks for the replies, I downloaded what I presumed was the latest version of DPP from the Canon website. It will read every Canon raw file I have from my ancient 300D to my 1DX but it won't display images from the M3. It will display jpegs but not raw.

Can you confirm specifically what version it is you're using?
When you say view the RAW files do you mean "view in DPP" or "view the RAW files as images in windows explorer"?

Many thanks everyone for your replies, it would appear I was experiencing a senior moment, I downloaded the latest version of DPP from the Canon website assuming it would update my present version., I didn't realise it would download version 4 to run with my current version and not replace it. I am now enjoying a camera that I was rapidly learning to not like. Thanks again.

Strange. It should have recognised the old one and when installed should have replaced it?

Oh well, at least it's sorted!

No it doesn't replace DPP 3 as not all models are supported by DPP 4 yet.

The upport list for DPP4 is ridiculous it works with RAW files from my 5d but not the much more recent EOS M1 the really sad thing is that it is an artificial hobble that canon have done deliberately as you can easily edit the EOS M1 raws to look like 5D mkii raws (ie change the camera type in the file info) and they work perfectly :|

Glad you got it sorted, And it's strange you're growing to not like it - the more I use the M3 the more I like it :)
