However, CaptureOne doesn't yet support CR3 files and so I'm thinking that initially doing my RAW conversions in Canon's DPP would work instead of CaptureOne.

Does anyone here use a CR3 RAW > DPP > CS6 workflow please? I don't use Lightroom nor do I want to use Photoshop to initially convert RAW into DNG as Photoshop does not have broad enough RAW adjustment controls.

Hi Robin, I can;t help with the cs-6 side of things, but I did use dpp to batch convert into tiffs which gives you the option of 8 or 16 bit files. File size is huge! The batch convert is fairly straight forward, but doing anything else with dpp was really frustrating for me.

For my workflow, I am using zoner photo studio, which allows the files to be opened with the dng converter without having to do it separately as it is note yet supported by zoners own software yet. I save to jpeg straight after editing, I did have an issue where portrait orientated pictures din't show properly at all, that appears to have stopped now.

I've only just got DPP and I use PS Elements 12, but that's more or less what I aim to do. I'm still trying to get my head around DPP but so far finding it very slow. Sorry that's probably not very helpful. I am finding the M50 a fabulous little camera.
 
Had an enjoyable day at ICBP in Newent a couple of weeks ago with the M50.

Still finding the focus harder than with the old SLR but that's almost certainly more to do with technique than the camera.

Ive not used my M50 much recently. I got a new GoPro and have been having fun with that.

Im really struggling not to order the 32mm f/1.4. i know i wont use it much, but its a lens i really want as it brings the M50 in line with my 5D4 + 50mm f/1.8 STM.
 
Hello folks, Im looking to get a new 'basic' camera for my other half, any opinions on the M50 with kit lens?

From what I've read the 18-55 is better than the 15 - 45, not sure you can still get that kit though? The 15-45 would irritate me I think, having to activate it before use every time. I'd either look for an 18-55 cheap, or get the 22mm F2 for starters.

I’ve really enjoyed using the M50. I have both kit lenses 18-55 & 55-200 and am happy with how both perform. It’s nice & lightweight to carry around too

It is not too robust as a lens. A search on EBay will yield pre-owned 18-55mm kit lenses from £65+ and new around £120+

The 15-45 is not robust and a bit ‘plastic’. The 18-55 is metal and better built.

Or like mine; it can be largely left in the camera bag :oops: :$

I bought it so I had a wide angle (that’s why the 15... rather than 18...) but it’s not really something that suits my photography, I’ll bet I’ve not shot 100 pics with it.

I could say the same about my 11-22mm. Seemed like a good idea at the time. I think i was trying to bring my M system in line with my FF system.

Continuing on that, i have just ordered the 32mm f/1.4. I was on the bus stuck in traffic and thought what the hell. Its arriving tomorrow from Amazon. i dont think i need it, doubt ill use it much, but felt i had to try it and see what all the fuss is about. maybe this will be the 50mm that i finally take to.

My 32mm f/1.4 just arrived and it seems to live up to what others are saying. its a lovely lens, and surprisingly the AF is much faster than any of my other EF-M lenses, as well as my EF-S STM lenses. Still a bit sluggish compared to USM Nano and USM, but going from distance to close up is not going to be a problem like ive found don the other lenses.
AF seems good and although ive only viewed my shots on the LCD it looks like a keeper.
I dont tend to use non-IS lenses much, and ive noticed the camera drops the shutter speed to 1/60 a lot of the time in AV mode. Ill get used to it and i can obviously use other modes, and it wont be a big issue, but coming from my 35F2 IS i will miss those 1/5 hand held shots.

Im also really pleased that the 3rd party hood i got for my 18-150 fits like a glove.

All in all its a nice lens, although maybe still a bit high price wise. ill try and post shots tonight or over the weekend.

Typically on a new lens day the weather decides to change. Too wet to shoot outdoors on the way home so ive had to amuse myself at home.

This is at f/1.4 hand held. Im pleased with the lens. Edges are nice and sharp, as its the centre. Definitely the best 50mm (eqiv) lens ive owned.

Blasted weather well on it’s way downwards. It is why I am winding things up over here in Ireland.

They’re not powerzooms and it’s not related to any ‘need’ beyond the fact that they’ve found a way to make the lens more compact for storage / travelling.

The daft thing is that the lens isn’t particularly big ‘unlocked and ready to use’ but having the ability to shrink it means we’re tempted to use that facility.

Could this not be done with an optional lock button? I don't get why you have to wake the lens up before you can shoot either way It might not be power zoom, but it's power on unnecessarily IMO. The Panasonic 12-32 'pancake' kit lens does same

Phil's post came in as I was faffing about checking up on the Pany lens, just to make sure I wasn't talking arse :D [there's a few M43 kit lenses that do this] That's the one reason I don't own that one[12-32], I know it would irritate the heck out of me. Otherwise it's as stealthy as you could get for a zoom lens and can be fad for less than £100 used

‘Waking up’ is just a term, it is only ‘locked’ and therefore not ready to be used

It's a term I just made up earlier, only way I could describe it ;) it may as well be asleep if you can't even use the camera until it's released

Dave, basically this trip was a ‘wash up’ on places I eihher missed out, were overcrowded or the weather was $hite over the past few years.

The leg injury is still playing up so I have a specialist appointment at the end of the month. Will take the motorhome to Dublin and put it in it’s usual ‘storage’ unit.

First call will be to order the 32mm lens! I am getting a good trade for my Sigma 30mm f/1.4 Art so that will take the edge off the price of the 32mm

Currently hunmered down in Longford. Weather was vile so was glad to move inland. Seems that there is to be a Center Parc built here!

We didn't have it too bad here in Meath, plenty of rain and strong wind and the odd bin falling over that was about it. I believe a good chunk of people were without power along the west coast and it was pretty hairy over that side though. Inland is definitely the place to be when these storm hit such a tiny country

Steve, good to hear you finished your unfinished business. I’d love to go to Ireland one day soon. Maybe next yet.
Sorry to hear about the leg still, I’m sure ti will get sorted though.

Hopefully this won’t upset anyone, but this is a selfie i took yesterday. I’m very pleased with the AF and sharpness on the eyes.
