hey all,

I'm looking for some advice as I'm looking to upgrade my current dlsr which is a canon eos 1100d.

I'm wanting to move onto a full frame camera so was looking at getting a second hand canon 6d or the Nikon d750 but I'm in 2 minds. I tend to think I should stick with canon as what I've been using but the Nikon camera has a built in time lapse function which is appealing as at the moment I need to use a remote on my canon. Not a massive deal though.

Both of these cameras has wifi which is a bonus as when I'm traveling it makes sharing my photos easy.

Most of my shooting is landscape and urban city type photography with some time lapse videos in there too.

Any help is much appreciated.

The Nikon is the better camera in pretty much every department. However, you may prefer the ergonomics and controls of the 6D so worth trying them both before you buy.

I would have thought the 6d v D610 would have been a closer match ?

Thanks for the responses.

Are canon cameras more reliable then nikon? I was reading the d750 thread yesterday and there seemed to be a lot of people complaining about reliability.

That'd be me. I've had a nightmare with mine, but I also know you have to put it into perspective. There's a hell of a lot of D750's out there that have been problem free. If you look around you will find there's complaints about most cameras from people who have had issues. The internet's very skewed.

That being said, the early D750's did have to have a couple of recalls which isn't good. If you buy a new one now though they don't have these issues and they are great cameras, best bang for buck new FF cameras IMO.

Touch wood my d750 has been fine. Yes there are some out there that have been a nightmare. But surely you get that in electronic items in this day and age

Hi David and a warm welcome to TP. Hope you enjoy yourself here :)

As you are used to Canon, the obvious choice would be to stay with Canon...

Personally, if you are thinking of swapping to Nikon, now would probably be the best time as I presume you've not heavily invested in lenses for Canon ?

I would go and try them out and see which you prefer, I'm a Canon shooter and have been since my first SLR, father in law is Minolta / Sony - when I use one of his bodies, it's feels a bit alien and not as intuitive to me.

Don't forget, the grass isn't always greener on the other side :D

I really like my 6D. I don't know the Nikon d750. The 6D is great for urban landscape because it is smaller and lighter than the 5D. I still want a 5D. Now that the new model is out the mark 3 may come down in price on the second hand market. Worth considering. I don't know Nikon because I have a big investment in Canon lenses.

This ^^

I recently invested in a 6D. I had a 5D classic a while back and liked the ergonomics of it all so the 6D then felt the natural choice.

My father has a D700 and I don't get on with that at all. It's personal preference obviously but if you are already a Canon shooter, the 6D would be a logical move.

Try both if you can and see what you think. Welcome by the way :)

Yeah i guess with every brand there will be the odd person who is having issues with there camera, i wouldnt be so worried if i was purchasing the camera from new but ill be going for a second hand camera.

i havent heavily invested in anything as of yet - i was given the EOS 1100d as a gift a few months back and only have the 2 lenses it came with so now is the time to change if its the right thing to do.

im visiting new zealand later in the year so hoping to have something sorted by then as a full frame for landscape would be ideal.

You can use Magic Lantern with the 6d which can negate your need for a remote. The 750 is a better camera but then it's newer and 30% more expensive so it should be.

They're also not directly comparable - the Nikon equivalent of the 6d is the d600...
