hi today i walked into a well know shop and bought a eos 600d very happy with it i am a newbie to photography, but your views on this camera would be cool thanks:)

Upgraded my sons 400d to the 600d at Christmas. A very impressive camera and it's interesting to see how things have moved on. He wanted it for video work as well as stills.

What lens(es) did you get with it?

If you're looking for a very good zoom to go well with the kit lens you should have a look at the 55-250 IS. It's got very good IQ and it's very reasonably priced and gets loads of good reviews on the forums. Congrats on your new camera and welcome to the forum.

I started on the 600D as well.
I can say it's a fantastic camera, I really loved it.

It has great features and a bunch of auto settings to get you up and running quickly, though I'd advise to get into manual as soon as you can.
The image quality is superb, on par with the 7D, which is what I currently use.
In my opinion you can stick with the kit lens while you're learning, unless you really have a specific idea and plan what you want to shoot.
I know lot of people will say "get a new lens, get a new lens"... but if you're just starting out and want to find your way in photography, save your money, stick with the kit lens for a while until you get an idea of the type of subjects you want to shoot.
You can get great images with the kit lens imo.

If anything, get an off camera flash first. It will really be a big help, plus the 600D has built in wireless flash control. I used that feature a lot and you can get very creative once you have a flash.
The screen is great too, I didn't do a lot of video shooting but I love shooting pictures from a low angle, close to the ground and the flip out screen really helps there.

Overall I can't fault the camera and I probably would have kept shooting with it, had I not purchased a 24-70L lens, which attached to the 600D made it front heavy and unbalanced in my hands.

There is a 600D owners thread on here somewhere, have a look at it if you haven't already.
Good luck and enjoy!

I totally agree with last thread I've got a canon 450d which had an 18-55 kit lens, I stayed with this lens for about 2 years before getting a tamron 18-270! I recently looked back through my pictures that I took with the kit and they are so much more consistent than the tamron so I have decided to start again, my tamron is for sale and I now have a 17-50 there's so much to learn and I am only just beginning to realise how much!!

thanks for the replys im loveing it and takeing pics of every that moves and if it dosent move im still shooting it lol.im going to find my way around it first take my time learn it and then look into getting a better lens :)

Cracking Camera.

Had mine for about 8 months now and it pretty much goes everywhere with me. As is hinted at above, its a great base to expand on. I can certainly +1 on the 55-250 IS and Video comments.

I'll also chime in and say that a battery-grip (I went third party with timer) is well worth the £50 or so that it costs. It completely chances the balance of the body and takes a lot of the strain out of using heavier / longer lenses (I regularly use a sigma 150-500 handheld on mine).

55-250 is a good lens for the money but it's very slow to focus and and a variable aperture means the shutter speed constantly changes to compensate for the aperture as it changes when u zoom in, if u have it on moanual or shutter priority (Tv) ur images will be dark if u zoom and dont lower the shutter speed to compensate. I've had mine for a year now and I do enjoy the lens but it's no good for photographing kids and I have 2 of them which meas chaos! And for that u need a fast lens with usm and a fixed aperture like a 70-200 f/4 is usm or the f2.8 is usm but it's much more expensive and u would need a mortgage to buy it, although sigma and tamron do a much cheaper version of the canon ones.
Bottom line I like the lens, I just wish it had a constant aperture and a faster AF motor.
