Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and also DSLR photography! I've bought myself a Canon EOS 600d as my first beginner camera to learn with. I've since taken a few indoor (low light) images which I know would look far better if I wasnt relying on the tiny built-in flash. I'm aware of the Canon range of flashes however from what I can see they aren't cheap especially if you go for one of the higher models. Can anyone recommend a suitable (cheaper alternative) that I could use that would see me through my begginer stage of photography (to use on hotshoe)? I've seen quite a few praises for Yongnuo and Nissin flashes however I have NO IDEA which brand or model would actually be best for me (and also compatible with my cam).

Any help would be massively appreciated,

Thanks! :)

As you're new to it, go for an ETTL flash, I'd personally recommend a Nissin, or buy a 2nd hand Canon.

Hi Phil,

Thanks for replying, which Nissin model would be best to go for do you think (or have you had experience with)?

Are there any other Brands/Models I should look at, are the Yongnuo a no go?

Cheers

I don't really know much about the ETTL capabilities of the Yongnuo flashes, maybe someone else could chip in?

Just doing a bit of research (I might be in the market for one) and I seem to have the choice of HSS on the 568 or the external battery socket on the 565. I want both:shake:

Am I right? Am I stuck? Is this why I decided on the Nissin?

Personally Phil, I'd be going for the 568 unless you're a spray n pray type :P

To the OP, I'd recommend picking up a second hand canon flash, if only for peace of mind in knowing it'll do what you want without needing too much input... then _you_ decide when its time to fiddle some more.
Maybe look on the LCE website, or CEX even.

Thanks guys, Think I'm going to look for either a used Canon 430exII or a Nissin di622 which seems to be equally a well respected flash.

Cheers :)

I've gone for a YN568EXII more functionality, power and cheaper than the 430EXII
