Can someone please help me?

A friend and I have just started camera club with our 'new' cameras. It is my friends birthday and i would like to buy her something for her camera c.£20. She has a tripod but nothing else, can anyone help? I was thinking of filters or polarizer, table top tripod, monopod, gorillopdo? She has a Canon EOS 450D, many thanks,

Pip:shrug:

Beanbags are pretty useful and there are some good ones for sale cheaply on this forum. What sort of photography do they do most of?

thank you, but I should mention:

lens hood - please tell me why! I have one but don't know what to do with it.

She has a bag, memory card, tripod, lightroom 2, photoshop CS2,

thank you

Pip:)

Lens hoods screw onto the end of your lens, and stop extra light coming in from the fringes and affecting image quality. Always use one if you have one. If you're completely stuck for something to but her, you can never have too many memory cards..

Does she have a decent head on her tripod?

Decent head on her tripod????? sorry can you explain?

Lens hood sounds good but I had one with my camera so suspect she may have too!

+1 for the cable release, very useful bit of kit.

camera magazine subscription, but polarizing filters are great or maybe a camera and lens care kit.

I have to admit i had a similar dilemma at Christmas and i bought my friend a really good photography book - they loved it! :)

Magazine subs sound great! lens realise! Good idea.........will check out mags first. Never thought of lens care kit - I have one, but didn't give it a second thought - great idea! We are so enthusiastic it is hard to know where to start,

thank you all,

Pip:)

Like a ball head or a 3 way head. A piece you screw onto the top of the tripod to let you move the camera in different directions. Some come with them already attached but some don't.

I think we have exhausted many books, tend to look at the photos and not digest the text so much, hence belonging to camera club! mags are better fun! We both read Am Photographer every week though.

Being new to this we are both experimenting in many ways and I think a tripod is a personal thing........I would certainly like to buy my own.........even though i barely know what I am doing, but thank you, I will take all advise,

Pip

Trixster,

Yep that is good also :) Funny how you never think of the obvious, until it is stated!

many thanks,

Pip

National Trust membership? Worth it for the photo opportunities.

£20 worth of petrol so you can both drive off into the hills to collect some photos.

thanks Trixster and everyone else, will have lots of ideas for shopping this weekend,

you're all brilliant for us newbies to photography,

Pip :)

trixster! the petrol thing is such a good idea - that way I get to go as well!!!!! Brilliant..............

Pip:)

get her some little pressies like a rocket blower, triopd case etc. you could always get her a spare battery or a nice sandisk 2GB memory card as you can never have too much memory.
