Hi
I've got a couple of old Portaflash 336VM heads & would like to use them with my 450D, any ideas how to do this?

I phoned Jessops & they suggested a cheap hotshoe trigger & cable, but this doesn't work & the camera menu gives a flash not compatible type message.

Any advice would be appreciated, especially cheap solutions :)

Cheers.

ebay radio triggers, job done.

The cable won't report that there's a flash attached, because there is no data connection through the cable, but the flashes should still fire :S

get an ebay trigger or similar (about £15), plug the transmitter into your hot shoe, and the reciever into the socket on one of the flashes, put the other in optical sensor mode, jobs a good'un :)

Cactus radio trigger from HK via eBay. Mine came with 3.5 mm jack plugs on the interconnecting leads, the Portaflash uses 2.5 mm, use a Maplin adapter about £1.50.
If you are using 2 or more 336VM's you will only need 1 receiver, the built in optical sensor will fire the other.

Canon have a known polarity issue with some studio flashes, try a reverse polarity sync lead, or make your own. Wayne

Since you don't have loads of cables etc you may as well go straight for wireless triggers - try googling Cactus V4 and buy them from the Hong Kong manufacturer.

Thanks for the info, ordered them yesterday. 1 transmitter & 2 receivers 24 quid inc delivery.

Cheers :)
