Hello,

I'm looking at getting a new camera very soon. I am unable to get to do much photography done due to college, but when i do get the chance i try get out as much as possible using my Finepix S9600 which i hate.

Which would be the best camera for a budget which would you recomend the Canon EOS 450D or Canon EOS 400D?

If so were would be a cheap-ish place to buy it...

Thanks

JDP.

Okay thanks mate!

what are the 1000D's like? i have been reading through the reviews for all 3 but i cant diside...

Thanks mate for the help. :)

Much aprecheated.

Oh good point i forgot about that bit.

It's around £450 max...

I have the 400D, I wish I had spent the extra on the 450D. Two main reasons are the 450D has spot metering & IS on the kit lens.

I would go for the 400D and then find a good deal on a Tamron 17-50 2.8. Leaves the 18-55(IS) in the water. Found that virtually all copies have been sharp as tack.

450D doesnt offer much that the 400D does not have. Plus I liked having only CF since they write faster vs SD cards. As I upgraded bodies later, didnt have to worry about another 10/20gb worth of cards all over again.

Okay thanks for the help. I will have a better look into the 400D then.

Thanks again :)

dupe post... sorry internet crashed didnt think it sent, so i clicked send 2ice...

Hi JDP,
with regard to the comment by Teshi "find a good deal on a Tamron 17-50 2.8. Leaves the 18-55(IS) in the water", I disagree with this sweeping statement. I've had both lenses, sold the tamron and kept the 18-55IS.
Independent test results for both lenses can be found at www.photozone.de , well worth a read, I would say.

Depends how long you wanna stay into photography, spot metering on the 450 is very useful
the 400 takes cf cards so will share cards with a 40,50,5,1d whatever you graduate too or when you wanna use your 400 as a backup body, this is something |I am considering atm

Okay thanks... will read the tests :)

I want to stay in photography the rest of my life. I want to try and use it as part of what im training up to be. I think what i would do, get the 400D as im unable to get out much and then sell the cam i have got now and put money towards the 450D or other cameras.

What are you views on buying cameras from Ebay? worth the risk???

Got my 400d from ebay and very happy. Coincidently just got a 18-55 IS from ebay too and very happy with it also.
Having spent a few hours shooting next to someone with the 450, the only thing I would really want from it that the 400 doesnt have is the ammount of frames per second, but thats all ive spotted (so far) :-)

So you're saying you're going to get the 400D, then buy a 450D later on? That would be pointless IMO! The 450D wont give you better images than the 400D, the end result with the same lens would be pretty much identical! As someone said, personally I'd get the 400D and invest in better lenses, unless you can find a 450D for less.

But as I say, the 400 and 450D's are practically identical (bar the IS kit lens and a few touches) so there would be no point in spending money going from one to the other.

okay thanks guys. Much aprecheated! Will keep an eye on the forums as well.

I've allways been abit wary of buying electronical goods from ebay!
