The old lady opposite me has ask me to try and sell some of her husbands stuff as he passed away a couple of months ago.

I've got a load of stuff here. Last night I started going through it all and taking photos. I got to the Canon eos 3. There was a lens attached. I undone the lens to check the glass at both ends and this thing fell straight out.

Has the camera had it, is it an easy fix. Can a novice like me fix it?

its not a sensor - the EOS3 is a film camera, and the only sensors are for the AF and eye-controlled focus... That's the focussing screen, they're interchangeable (as with most of the top end film cameras of that era), and basically just clip into the tray marked with a CF-0

Be very careful to only handle th screen with the little tab on the side - ANY fingerprints will be almost impossible to remove without damaging the focussing screen in some way (ask me how I know...)

removal/replacement details here - http://photo.net/canon-eos-digital-camera-forum/00NoCD

(save me re-typing it...)

Try hard not to damage the camera mate, they're a fantastic bit of kit, and out of a collection of maybe 30+ film cameras, it's one of two that I'll try to keep to my dying day!

It should be easy to fix. That is the focussing screen and on the EOS3 they are user changeable. You just need to refit it. There are videos around on youtube showing you how to change focussing screens on Canon SLRs

watch this from around 1:20 onwards.... but unlike the cack-handed bloke on the video - handle the screen with the exposed tab ONLY. I klnow it's for the 5D, but basically it's identical process to the EOS3.

I know it's not a sensor, I just didn't know what to call the plastic thingy :)

If you are doubt ask TP, take 10mm of diazepam and get some tweezers lol.

Looks like I've manage to do that :)

As I'm going to put it (and the other things I have) on here can I ask what sort of price should I ask for? Looks like it needs a new battery and bare in mind anything I get 100% of it will go to the lady opposite me. I need all this to go so I want to ask under the market price.

I should add the eos 3 has a 35-80 lens attached.

if it's on fleabay, sell 'em seperately...

body in perfect condition, with proof it works (i.e. a roll of film through it, and images available) fresh battery, boxed will fetch around 140

decent quallity/appearance (no marks on the focusing screen for example ;) ) without proof might struggle to bring 90.

35-80 lens bundled with the body will add b****r all value, as it's basically an awful, entry level kit lens, and the people interested in EOS-3 bodies are likely to either already have a digital EOS and a pile of L glass, or they'll want a big aperture 50mm lens... Punt that out on fleabay, it'll make £30 in perfect nick.

Would £40 delivered on here for body and if the person isn't happy full refund sound fair?

if people won't pay at least £50 for it, they're a bunch of tight b-stewards IMO... I'd have it myself but I've already got two and a Eos1v....

(oh - and all this really AUGHT to have been in price checks you know... but I'll make an exception as it's you doing the recently bereaved a favour - before anyone RTM's it!!!)

Sorry. can you transfer it over. If not. Thanks :)

You're getting soft in your old age, Mark!!!

It's a thankless task that I've had to do myself on several occasions and if I can make it easier on anyone else whos doing so, I will...
It's not entirely thankless; I appreciate your efforts and have to say that the posts on this forum from all members are always polite and helpful.

I've had responses to questions on other forums (technical and cycling) related to older things, which are openly hostile. For example 'recommend a frame fit pump, which gets to 115psi easily?' received many replies like : 'why do you want that?', 'that pressure is too high', 'how much do you weigh?' or for a technical question of 'has Google dropped support for Google Cloud Messaging browser keys?' got 'you should be using Firebase'. Imagine asking a question on here about a Nikon F and getting told to junk it and buy £40 digital Samsung!

So thanks once again Mark. It's reassuring to know that some people appreciate older things that work well.

there's only one answer to that - https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/pumps/size-1-zefal-hpx-pump-black/ - same answer that i've been giving for the past 37 years, never been bettered.
Thanks, that was one of the two 'not rude' suggestions I got. I went for the other one, which works fine. Once I get home I can use my SKS track pump (which I've had since 1986). I'm lucky in that I get very few punctures, so it was fairly disappointing to find out that my whole repair kit and tools were useless. That's enough off-topic from me

Well I would have never known about that plastic thingmajig so, thank you, hit the like button, but I will stop short of sending you cash :D
