Canon EOS-1D Mark III, 10 mp, 10 fps

I've just looked at Park Cameras, and they're already knocking 30% of their Canon DSLR range.

If i had a 1D 2N i wouldnt bother rushing to upgrade to the Mk3 but as i have a 20D i can see a LOT of things worth upgrading to a MK3 for specially as a 2n was on the cards anyway :)

Same here just gotta find the dosh now :D

iso 6400 :naughty: sounds fun how grainy can ya go!

Anybody in the market for a 1D would obviously do well to wait for this one, but there's nothing there to tempt me to want to swap my current version. The pixel increase isn't a really significant difference (unless the the Dogic 111 processor makes a substantial difference) and I don't use the 8.5 fps I already have.

Beautifully spec'd camera though. :)

Same here,I dont think ile mis the extra 1.5 FPS.

The UK RRP is £3,049
Now way am I paying that when it's $4k in the US, so i'll pick one up in November when I'm there :)
That price means nothing, when it hits the shops I recon it will be about £2400

I doubt it'll be that low - maybe £2800.
Anyway, my point is the RRP in the US is $4k which when converted to £'s is much lower than the UK RRP.
I take your point that usually sellers go below RRP but that also applies in the US, so the price difference will remain.

If you're right and it does actually launch at £2400 (£650 less than RRP) then that equates to $2700 = £1350 \o/.
Highly unlikely though ;)

It will depend on demand I'd reckon. I can see a lot of folk going for it and if Canon keep supply tight there's no reason why they won't be able to keep prices at or very near to RRP.

So you don't think that professional photographers (who are frequently standing in the middle of a crowd of photographers/journos) might find it handy when they hold their cameras up in the air to get photos, for example?

And before you ask why that matters to you, it doesn't. The 1-series is aimed at working pros.

My main reason for being impressed with the feature, though, was simply that I read a very well-written, convincing article about how difficult it would be for camera makers to put a "live LCD" (like you get on point'n'shoot digicams) into a DSLR. The article said there were only two ways to do it and both had massive sacrifices. Basically, you either had to black out the viewfinder or sacrifice half the light in order to split the incoming beams between prism and sensor.

So Canon have obviously found a way to do it. I thought that'd be fairly big news and I'm surprised it's not.

Not that difficult if Samsung (I'm sure) could pioneer it in their DSLRs...

If memory serves me correctly they put a smaller secondary sensor in the prism roof and that gives a live view without sacrificing much light if any at all.

Only problem is I don't think it will incorporate a flip-out monitor screen so so much for shooting over the heads of other people

 :bonk: :D

Besides have any of you thought what a 1D mk xxx would look like with a powershot A6XX style flip-out monitor??

:gag:

i wonder why canon didn't leak this story a few weeks ago???

i'd have thought the sooner it came out the more people would have put off going for other makes....(i'm guessing they wouldn't sell that many mk2's)

Yep - I paid £2799 for my n when they were just launched and like hens teeth to get hold of.

I shall almost certainly be in the market for one of these - it'll have to wait until next winter mind you. Lots of plus points over the 30D - particularly if I can take my speedway stuff forwards over the coming season. The Mk2n would have been a bit of a tough call to be honest because of the smaller LCD screen - so this release makes life easier.

The n has the new larger screen. ;)

If as I suspect the n gets down to around 1800 quid it's gonna be an absolute steal!

If it gets to that point I'll miss the 20D

ROTFL.

I love mine and wouldn't dream of swapping to the new model for the marginal improvements. A lot more pixels might have attracted me but Canon clearly want to keep the speed up, which is one of the cameras biggest strengths.

Ooh now does it....hmmmm....I wonder if there will still be any about to be had for a bargain price by the winter?! Oh well, if not I'll just have to have myself a MkIII instead won't I!!

LOL. You can't really go wrong can you? :D

Hi,

would this be a worthy upgrade from the 350D? :D

I better head over to the For Sale Forums and pick up all the Mark II bargains.

I don't think I could ever justify that much cash on a camera to the missus, but I suppose some of the features might filter ( pardon the pun ) down to the lesser models in time.

Mike.

I am quite tempted to get one of these to complement my 5D :)

Only thing is as Canon don't do international warranties on bodies I'm a bit dubious of getting one abroad

Get it with the MACK warranty which is taken here I believe.

Don't think I've ever pressed the shutter button while the lens is off my camera :)

For a sales site they have a fairly basic looking site. I wouldnt like to risk it personally but you never know when your lucks in or out.

Well ive had a phone call from them today... the havent accepted my pre-order as they only want to take 6 pre-orders.. im number 7 and they cannot be sure they will get that many bodies in stock at launch. :(

Pre-Order placed with RGB-Tech... hope they arent a dodgy outlet, as ive never heard of them before this thread.
I bought my 30D from them last year just after it was announced. No issues whatsoever and I got a good price too :)

Well RGB have put their price up to £2999, so thats pretty much made my descision for me...only Kerso left to get a quote from and then based on that ill be getting a 1dmkIIn instead.
