Hi all,

I have a Canon EOS 1000F and due to ill health am having trouble pressing the shutter button. Is this camera compatible to use a shutter release cable of some sort please?
Can't find any info in the instruction manual, and wouldn't know how to attach it to the camera.

Hope you can help,
Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome to TP

I had to look it up and sadly it seems one facility that Canon left off of that 'basic' model was the connection for a cable release.

Nor could I find any suitable adaptions, though they might exist  NB I have vague memory of seeing one based on a velcro strap that wrapped over the shutter button area, to which a conventional mechanical release cable could be attached.

PS though film SLRs seem to have had a resurgence of interest, with prices going up(?), your best bet is to look for a 'newer' model that has that function.

Can you get a battery grip for the camera? Some of those have an electric release. Failing that the self timer might be a work around, if you have to fumble the button you can reposition the camera before it takes the pic.
I dont know that model so cant help much I'm afraid.

1000F was true poverty spec but with a pop up flash, unlikely to have been offered with battery grip. I had a quick look at the specs but the only thing I can think of is one of the trigger from the likes of Hahnel but whether they work well with 90's era camera I am not sure

I know you can get an electronic cable release for the EOS 600 / 650. Might be worth having a look perhaps. They were very cheap not so long ago.

If it has WiFi or Bluetooth you could use the Canon App on your mobile.
The 1000F is a film era camera - from before mobile phones were widespread & I suspect before Bluetooth (or WiFi) was ratified as a standard...

Hey Frank, welcome to TP. A quick look at the manual suggests no more than what has already been said in that it doesn't have an attachment for a remote trigger, and doesn't have the capability for a battery grip. Self-timer as Wayne suggested was my only thought. Either that or picking up something like an EOS 600/650 as Neville suggested.

I know on my Yashica camera, if I use the self timer, as soon as I press the shutter button to trigger the timer the camera goes into mirror lock up so I need to fix the composition first and try to hold it throughout.

I think it might help to get more detail of what exactly the issue is.
Because technically a button on any cable release would be a similar movement to pressing the shutter.

But I remember when electronic shutter buttons first became popular; someone made a metal bracket to allow an old school cable release to be used. A bit Heath Robinson but workable if you could find one.

And there you have it

Y never know @gramps
I’ve given up the ghost in the past only to be surprised weeks later when someone returns for their answer and engages as if the pause had never occurred

Most cable releases can be operated with a thumb rather than a finger. A mate lost the tip of his index filter but still takes photos using a cable release.
