Canon EOS 1000D

I'm after some info on a Canon EOS 1000D

Someone I know is selling one. They've used it 3 times (They bought before they thought!) They're wanting £220 for it. It comes with the kit lens but thats it.

So my questions are: What lenses can I get for it? Are they reasonably priced? I've got a Nikon D40 at the moment with kit and 55-200. Does the Canon have a built in auto focus in the body or is it like the D40 where it's in the lens?

All Canon EF and EF-S lenses will fit and compatible lenses from third party makes, Tamron, Sigma etc. Prices range immensely but the Canon EF 50mm is reckoned to be a steal at around £80 and very good things are said of the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f4-5.6 IS for £160ish (I haven't owned or used either so can't say). No Canon bodies have IS in them it's always in the lens.

I've not used the 1000D but have read some very good reviews and it should offer more than enough as an entry level DSLR. The price sounds reasonable, but it's worth checking the usual 2nd hand sites (ebay, gumtree etc) to see what they're going for.

I've not had a 1000D but I have seen some very good results from it. I have had the kit 18-55 IS, the 55-250 IS and both are very capable lenses, the 55-250 IS giving exceptionally good IQ for the price. I do still have the 50 1.8 and while I don't use it very often it does deliver the goods when I do use it. It gives great DOF and a cracking IQ and is well worth the price. I got my 55-250 IS from the classifieds for £110 delivered and I couldn't tell it from a new one. It was in perfect condition and if you can find one similar you could have a really good setup for around £400 in total.

Hi I have the 1000d and it's a great starter camera. The motor is in th body not the lens and as already recommended the 50mm f1.8 is a great lens for around £70-£80 new.

The £220 price is pretty decent IMO especially with the lens and low useage.
