Canon ef100-400

Hi Tony, welcome to the forum first off. I sold my Canon 100-400 on the forum classifieds for £850 IIRC (not far off either way) in march. It was in excellent condition and very sharp, but I had a Sigma 150-500 OS and only one body at the time so I didn't need both lenses.

There's a few going in the classifieds section, I know you can't get in there yet though, and they are going from £825-925 so I think around £850 is about right still. It's a damn good lens but the Sigma 150-500 OS is also an excellent performer and cheaper new than a second hand Canon.

Given that a new 100-400 is currently just under £1100 from amazon and with the £80 cash back this comes to under £1020 I don't think I'd pay more than £750 or so as otherwise it's just too close to the new price.

Thank you both for your replies, the information on the current classifieds especially helpfully.
I purchased a 2012 model from eBay yesterday at a favourable price.
Modchild you speak favourably of the sigma 150-500 will this couple up to the canon 550d, also does it have the image stabilisation feature ?
Stu.artd I did look at amazon but I'm not confident that the sub £1100 models would be a) UK supplied (so inclusive of vat) and b) current 2012 date stamped models ! However this is only hunch as judging by the differentials in the product price makes me suspicious.
Excuse me using your user names but you are both Stuarts !!

I'm glad you found a 100-400 at a price you were happy with. Out of interest can you let su know how much you paid ?
The current Sigma 150-500 does have image stabilisation (referred to as OS) and the canon mount version will work with all Canon DSLRs.

However regarding your Amazon comments, the product page (as I look at it right now) states there is £80 cashback available (and the lens is £1098.37) so it looks UK sourced to me. So long as it's from amazon.co.uk and not a fulfilled by or marketplace I doubt there would be any issues as cashback is specifically mentioned.

Non UK 100-400 lenses are cheaper than this, for instance it is £964 from panamoz and that's the cost via paypal which can be further dropped with the 5% discount for paying by bank transfer.
