Hi Guys,

I have some old FD lenses, has anyone tried using the fitment kits to use them on their EOS cameras?

If so, any good?

It's not just a straight forward adapter fitting to go from FD to EF lenses. It actually needs an adapter with a lens in it. Canon did make one but they're very rare now. There were some third party ones around but they tended to be rubbish.

Basically it's not a good idea.

cheers

Just to expand on what Bill has said.....

Bill's correct in that there doesn't seem to be an optically good adapter these days and the optics are needed to correct a difference in registration distance between the EOS mount and the old FD mount.

Adapters are available without glass (I have one). That solves the optical degradation problem but the downside is that you'll lose the ability to focus at infinity. If you're aiming to use an FD lens for portrait or macro and don't need infinity focus then you could very well end up with some excellent usable lenses at a bargain price.
