Owners of this lens could maybe help me as I may purchase one 2nd hand.

Looking at one which is fast focusing but after it has focused I can still here the motor turning for a few seconds sometimes - is this normal with this lens or does it need a service. Not sure if it has anything to do with what focus limiting setting you have it set at. Photos nice and sharp as they should be.

Also could anyone provide me with a manual in pdf or even photos of the pages, Canon site has nothing.

Hi Willie, it sounds to me like the IS lens settling down which is normal :)
 
Thanks Gary, I will try it with the IS switched off and hopefully hear nothing but the focus beep.

I had not heard that noise with previous IS lenses that I have had, but none of them have been as big as this beast. :)
 
Yeah sounds like the IS, I remember with mine that it was quite noisy.
 
Its the IS as already mentioned and that is quite normal.

Thank you all, tested with IS off and silent :clap: switch it back on and noise returns. Must be one heck of a motor for the IS

A really awesome lens, you will be very pleased with its performance.
An excellent investment, i have never regretted buying mine
