Hi all,

A friend has given me a Canon EF 28-80 1:3.5-5.6 lens that was surplus to their use.
It shows a macro setting of 0.38m/1.3ft

I'm pretty much a newbie to DSLR and lenses in general.

It seems to work fine on my 650D albeit I haven't taken any photos of note yet

Anyone got any experience of this lens and its practicalities?

Any info would be much appreciated

Thanks in anticipation.

Gary

It's a bit of a dog

Haha, a full and detailed review there.
I have no idea of this lens, it can't be any worse than the standard kit lens, which is better than some people would have you believe.

If this is the Mark 1 version then it's not a bad lens at all.
I sold mine years ago but if I remember correctly, the back end even had a built-in dust seal - try finding one of those on a cheapie lens these days.

Definitely the best of the 28-80's (apart from the L Version of course:lol:)

got USM version that lens, vignettes worse than 35/2. but shouldn't be much problem on your crop sensor.

optically, I don't think it's any sharper than modern day 18-55 kit lenses. but with the USM version, it certainly focuses a lot faster.
