Yes
looking at getting 1 of these and just want a review from someone who knows about it

They are supposed to be very good, if you google it you'll find some excellent reviews for it - a few on here have it and rave about it.

I'm trying to decide between this lens, and the Sigma 18-125 for my new walkabout lens. I think I'm looking more towards the canon as I dont need the wide end of the Sigma.

Also, if you go onto Flickr and type in Canon 28-135 it should bring up a load of images taken with the lens, so you can have a good look at what it can do.

i have looked through some reviews dpreview had a comparison thread asking about the sigma 18-125 against the canon 28-135 and the canon came out top in all aspects with the bonus of is. so i think i will be looking for the 28-135 canon but would like conclusive evidence as i have about 4 lenses i am looking at lol

I have the lens on a 400d, and have seen some great shots taken with this lens on a 50d.
I think that the problem I have is with the IS. I think that I am not leaving the button pressed enough, before taking the shot. Also, if you are using it on a tripod, the IS on this lens is a definite no-no (some lenses are Ok).
For me, the focal lengths are good, and I can get away with taking this lens on its own away for a weekend (when I can't be bothered to pack/repack).

I used to own one and it was an absolute cracker, would def recommend

With the IS on this lens, it isn't auto tripod deteecting, so you need to switch it off when using one,

I have this lens and have used it for the last 5 or so years. At the moment its used with a 40D body and its very good. As mentioned above, the IS has to be switched off when using a tripod, and its only 1st gen IS so it doesnt give you a choice of settings. The AF is pretty quick and quiet, sharpness is good. Overall a nice lens. Just as a p.s. i recently hired a 24-105 L, and tbh it wasnt that much better than the 28-135 IS.
Obviously my own opinion.
Dean:)

I agree with the others - it's much better than the 18-55mm kit lens. I hardly ever use anything else.

I had this lens, found it to cause some chromatic aboration and some barrel distortion at 28mm, would recommend saving and buy 24-105mm L IS

if you cant afford to budget for a L lens these are a craking lens i would recomend these all the way there a great walk around lens

im currently using one as a walk around and have had some very nice crisp images from it

The Sigma has IS too (though its called OS). But you're right, the Canon seems to be the way to go, but the Sigma still seems very attractive as its supposed to have very good IQ for such a flexible lens, and its quite new.

You do get a lens hood with the Sigma though...
