Canon EF 24-70mm price drop!

I can hear the rumourmill starting up... replacement ahoy :lol:

yoowza what was it previously? 980?

I bought one on the 18th Aug for £998!

Now down to below £900!!!! :bonk:

Oh well, was happy to pay that at the time so shouldnt complain but may still call up and see if i can get anything sorted though i wont hold me breath!

This is a bit weird.

Warehouse Express have posted big price cuts for the following lenses:
* EF-S 18-200mm IS
* 16-35mm f/2.8 L
* 24-70mm f/2.8 L

But that's all really. Nothing else much has changed.

Thing is, Canon announced a whole shed load of new lenses last week. It would seem highly unlikely that replacements for these are alo in the pipeline. Especially as two of the three are relatively new lenses.

I have seen a couple of used 24-70 L's go for £500 recently in a couple of forums.
Just seems to be TP and Ebay where lenses sell at a premium.
Or maybe the world is finally seeing the true value of goods now.

Please give me a heads up next time you see one going for that price, I'm looking for one!! :D

Not every lens thou, just checked.

I paid £975 for my 35L, its £1,138 on WE.

85L is still £1.7k. Kerso last I check did it for £1.4k.

I was in jessops yesterday looking at one and it was £1039.00. Even if they did release a new IS version the old one would still be worth a right few bob. The price of the 70-200 F2.8 IS hasn't fallen much after the release of the mk2.

The 85/1.2 ?

Paid £720 new for one of these from jessops 3 years ago - that price hike in Jan09 was a killer

I think the issue here is that the two aren't very close together, price-wise. There's still a good £7-800 between the price of a new Mk2 and a used Mk1, meaning you're either in the market for one or the other and few will be considering both. There's also the fact that there are virtually no used Mk2s available yet.

I suspect the same could happen with the 24-70. Whe the new IS version is released, I'm expecting it to be the thick end of £2k, meaning it won't really affect used values of the current model.
