I hate my neck strap, it gets in the way and i hardly ever use it, so i've been looking at hand straps recently. The nikon AH-4 hand strap and many aftermarket ones seem to have a large plastic thing that attaches to the bottom of the camera to hold it in place.

Now i can imagine this being very uncomfortable when using the camera in portrait mode (i use a grip on the D80). Am i right in thinking the canon E1 doesn't have this plastic thing? If so, how does it attach to the camera, and can anybody think of any reason why it wouldn't work on a Nikon, apart from it being the wrong brand?:p

Photos would be helpful! :woot:

takes about 4-5 days to be delivered but is quality and works well.

scrap that, not sure you need the above for what you want...forget I posted but I will leave for others as it's a useful little thing.:D

don't know why you couldn't use it in portrait mode? doesn't appear to get in the way...but it does look cumbersome.

if you use the canon strap it too will need an adapter, like the link I posted, unless there is an attachment point on the nikon battery grip?

I'm no fan of neck straps either. I have the hand strap on the 20D but it is not attached as it should be. The lower anchor for the hand strap is part of the grip (or base of a 1 series I guess) so the camera on its own has no lower fixing. I find it quite usable with just the top point attached.

On the 5D I use the TP branded optech pro strap. The middle portion unclips so I can use it with the two lower bits clipped together into a loop that I wrap around my hand. Simple to clip the centre section back in if I want a full strap.

If you have a grip they usually have an attatchement like the 1Ds have so you can use a strap like that, mine has one (im getting one of those straps soon actually).

I've had a couple of Canon E1 straps and don't really rate them......much prefer the Nikon AH-4 which I've used on Nikon D2Hs & Canon 1DMKII.

It is a little awkard at times to shoot in portrait mode which is my prefered mode but you get used to it after a while.

Doesn't the canon hand strap prevent using the portrait controls on the grip?

I made my own out of heavy(ish) duty elastic material.

The Nikon one does but I'm still able to use the landscape mode controls in portrait mode....if that makes sense  :)
