Yes
...from my 50D.

I've used it in the past to process RAW from my 1000D, and it works fine, but for some reason the RAW images are just showing up as a grey cross from the 50D.

It's not the end of the World, as I usually use LR to do my processing, and they appear fine using that. I'm at my parents' house though, and using my mother's laptop, so I don't have that option at the moment.

Am I doing something wrong? I haven't done anything different to usual, other than copy the files from a CF card instead of an SD card.

Additional: Now DPP just stops working and Windows tells me to close it down when I try to view a folder full of RAW files.

do you have the latest version?

The link goes to DPP 3.4.1. 50D was in a version later than that.

Go to the canon website. Go to the support area and downloads and select Canon 50D. It should give you the opportunity to download an updater for DPP 3.8.something which should sort your problem.

Ah, now you're talkin'. Thanks, just trying that now.

So what's actually different -other than the file size - between the RAW files of different cameras? I thought they were all much of a muchness.

Right, sorted. There was a rogue JPEG in the same folder, and DPP didn't appear to be very keen on it. File deleted and problem solved. How frustrating though. Time to go out and take some photos now.

I used to have a 350D and upgraded to 50D in March. Since the upgrade Photoshop Elements 6 do not recognise the RAW files and don't really understand why this is.

I download photos using Microsoft Live and then Edit and convert using Lightroom. I have not used the Canon software - however is this something people recommend over Lightroom?

I certainly wouldn't recommend it over LR. As I mentioned, I only use it if I'm at my parents', as my mum doesn't have LR, and I doubt her laptop could handle it anyway!

Lightroom is fab. Love it. :D

The Canon software usually gives a better tif or jpg, but the interface is so horrible most people use lightroom or aperture.

RAW file codecs keep getting modified as new cameras get launched, so you have to keep updating them if you use a newer camera than normal.
