I recently purchased a Canon 1000d as my first DSLR. It's an easy to use camera, however I've noticed large dust blobs on all shots with sky showing.

This could not be seen on the sensor and the auto cleaning was obviously not doing it's job.

I returned this to the retailer and exchanged for another one, this was fine on first shoot but used it again this morning and there again are big dust blobs in all shots!

I have returned this to the retailer and had a refund, i am now without a camera and wondering whether to try a different manufacturer as I'm NOT impressed with Canon and the auto sensor cleaner appears to malfunction on the 1000D....any suggestions?

The auto cleaning a gimmic, yes its suppose to remove the dust from the sensor (which it does), but the dust is still inside the camera, so you still have to remove it, especially if the dust sticks to the sensor and the only way to remove that is with a sensor swab.

If you are changing lenses alot and holding the camera upwards (see the mirror) rather than downwards and still have the camera switched on, of course you'll introduce more dust into the camera.

It doesn't matter which brand of camera you buy, they will all be the same and prone to dust bunnies.

It also depends which lenses you use some are more prone to sucking in dust than others.

Personally I don't let it bother me, just clean the sensor when it needs a clean using a sensor swab, but then again my 2 canon bodies don't have the technology built in
