Does anyone know if there is an editor available that will allow me to edit a CTG file on an SD Card. ?

Early today a friend of mine ask me to help him out with some experimental 3D movie making. We both have the Canon EOS 600D so I thought why not.

Any he put one of his 16gb SD cards in my camera, and we did the experiments. But we I put my SD card back in I noticed the file number had increased by approx 4000 shots.

It transpired the SD card my mate put in was NOT empty and as my file numbering is set to continuous it picked up the file numbers of the card.

So I'm thinking if I could edit the CTG file, I could in effect reset the file number to back to 5000 and retain continuity of my filing system.

I really don't want to have to go down the road of renumbering every shot manual or with file numbering software.

Could you not delete any photos from the card then copy one image back to the card with the number you want to start from?

ie: IMG_0001.JPG

Might work

I tried that, but it didn't work. This is lead me to believe that the file numbering data was stored in the CTG file.

I since found out, by deleting the CTG but retaining the RAW CR2 file that file numbering is stored in the camera and not just read from CTG file on the SD Card.

So I'm stuff, I will have to use file renaming software after all. I've already got a free program called Bulk Rename that will be able sequencely renumber photo's, but it would have been nice not to have to do it as I've used the same numbering system since 2003 on my EOS 350D, followed by the EOS 400D, and now the EOS 600D

Many thanks for your reply.
