Great deal.
Canon server went a bit iffy for a while (over stretched) but have just received email confirmation from Canon for two units (one for my daughter).
Thanks very much for the heads-up Steve.

Cheers Mike but @billy nomates hit the ground running!

It’s not perfect but £29 for a 1Tb HDD in a smart box is great and linked via HDMI yo the. Big TV is good when family/friends come to visit.

£101 on Amazon and £178 on a couple of CPB listed sites!

Is this device only suitable for those with Canon cameras; or is it possible that those of us with other cameras (in my case Fuji) to use the CS100?

Cheers.

Cheers.

It has SD snd CF slots

Also NFC but that may not recognise the Fuji connection protocol.

It handles Canon CR2 RAW files for storage but no processing - you only see the JPEG.

For your files the SD slot is ideal, my EOS M5 and EOS 750D connect wirelessly. I am doubtful your Fuji will connect but that is just s guess.

So it is useful for sharing shots on the main TV and I do just that but all the miles go on my server and on Cloud storage.

For the money it is cheap as chips.

Thanks Steve for the prompt and comprehensive reply.

I've just ordered one.

I see that on the product page; it says that purchase of the CS 100 entitles one to 100Gb of Canon Irista storage.

I presume that this is a Canon Cloud Storage service? I wonder if they check the Exif data to make sure you're uploading images taken on a Canon device?

HI, other than allowing viewing of images onto a TV - is there any other real life benefit of this?
I have a desire to buy this, but in reality, wonder how much I will use it.....

Must admit I am not sure, I do use it in the field when I connect my EOS M5 through my iPhone/iPad and the canon connect app as an instant back up.

I have one connected to my TV so I can show my picture albums as and when friends family pop in (if they are interested) and the unit acts as a bridge to my Irista account.

I have ordered the second one for my motorhome - safe storage on the go.

1Tb Smart HDD for £29 - bargain as far as I am concerned with a CF card reader for my 5D II output too

no NFC on my 6d, so that benefit is mute.
as much as I like a new gadget, this is one that I think will just act as a dust catcher.

Great if you find a reason to use it. I can't....

Fine - without benefits there is no point no matter the cost (price really).

I have 1, it gets used, ordered another for my motorhome, it too will get used.

Possible use as an image tank for on-location back ups e.g. During a wedding reception (where you have some time to yourself and access to mains power outlet).

The ideal would be a 5v input via mains adapter or powerbank but then it would need an SSD so £29 would be impossible!

Canon offered this a few months ago. It seems to have a quite specific purpose. For a 1Gb drive it's cheap but it doesn't seem to function the same way, e.g. you can't just plug it in and arrange stuff into folders, which is why I passed on it the first time. If it does work just like a regular drive please let me know and I'll have one otherwise I think I agree with Meeten.

Out of stock now, so don't worry about its functionality too much.... [emoji3] [emoji3]

In case it does suddenly become available, to answer your query - no it does not function like a normal drive. It is designed to offer a method to manage and view your pictures, also to bridge to the Irista cloud service (ex Image Gateway). It has a custom OS and it limited on folder structure.

For me it is a front end tool to view and share pictures on my TV and to bridge to Irista. It is not my primary image file store.

Just got an email from the Canon UK shop

The CS100 is back in stock at £29 (£69 - £40 at checkout).

Wow they went quick.

Certainly priced to sell!

Fingers crossed for you.

Amazon had dropped their price to £75

mine arrived on the 27th december and i have had a bit of time to play with it

what it will do is automatically back up your CF card or SD card as soon as it is inserted with no user interaction
it will display RAW / JPG files on your tv via hdmi and also play back and video files, unfortunately if your video files are 4k and your tv is only 1080p it will not downscale the 4k video footage to suite your 1080p tv and refuses to play them
what it will do is play back m2ts video which is nice because my slideshows rendered to blue ray play fine as m2ts format files
with the very small bit of experimenting i have done it looks like it will backup and display any JPG images regardless of who makes the camera it came from i tried a few from a nikon D3 and it was fine but it will not backup the raw files from the same camera

i have to say it's not the fastest thing when backing your CF cards up to the device i would say it's quite slow but it does get there eventually

as far as NFC and wireless is concerned iv'e not tried it with anything yet so no idea how it performs or what it will or wont do where that's concerned

i have found that if i want to rename an album i need to do this from my pc via network connection and going to properties of the album i want to rename
there might be a way of doing this via the boxes own interface but i havn't found it yet

there are firmware updates available that is supposed to give better compatibility with other makes of cameras / phones but i havn't tried another make yet so can't really comment on what is or isn't compatible

the input voltage is 7.5 volts which is a pity i was hoping it would be 5 or 12 volts making it easier for using as a portable device but all is not lost if using it in a car or from a 12 volt source is an option using a variable voltage DC to DC 12 volt adaptor like one of these

https://www.maplin.co.uk/p/12-24v-digital-car-power-adapter-7-charging-tips-a79gw

unfortunately Maplin don't stock this item any more but i'm sure a bit of googling will find a similar product

my intentions is to use it in the caravan while we are away as a backup for my CF cards and for that purpose it will do nicely with the added bonus of being able to display the images on the tv, it saves me lugging a laptop to do pretty much the same thing

Actually Amazons price isn't bad at £76.21 as you can claim £40 cashback from Canon.
Buying directly from Canon as we did the cashback was automatically taken off.(I bought a new style lens cap for my 70-300mm L to take it over £30 as the paper had run out).

My new M5 arrived tonight so it will be handy for that plus my phone has NFC so should hopefully work with that as well.

Had not realised that the cashback deal was on the CS100 was general. I ended up buying 3, one for each of my sons and one to ho in my motorhome so I can leave the one in the house attached to the TV. All arrived by 2 Jan via FedEx.

The M5 works like a dream on NFC. My eldest son is swapping his 7D mk 1 for an M5.

Available again.

Just ordered one mainly because we intend selling our beach hut next year and buying a motor home ... so on your head be it ;)

I have 3 Ireland unlimited mobile data on an a mini Osprey unit and the CS100 is OK but happy using free wifi on a few of the sites I stopped at in Ireland.

I had unlimited mobile data on my phone (Talkmobile, owned by Vodafone) until recently but they capped it at 40GB a few months ago. I will probably take out a cheap BT sim deal to supplement it just so I can use their Wi-Fi hotspots which are pretty good.

I am expecting similar but, for now, it is useful in the UK as the feel at home feature means I have it here too. My iPad has a BT data sim as back up and BT hotspot link which does get used.

Managed to pick up a couple just before the price rise, many thanks to the OP for the heads up. :-)
