I am just sorting out the cashback on gear I bought from Ian and wonder if anyone knows if its all the barcodes or just the top one with the lens serial number that goes off with the paperwork ?
Seems daft cutting a bigger hole than nessesary in the box.

I had to cut a small hole in my box - there was no way the label was going to come off intact. :gag:

It's just the label with the serial number btw.

i cut out all three on my box " one must be right"

I realise that but there are 3 barcodes on the boxes I have, one has the serial number and the others are EAN/JAN code and UPC code.

I just peeled the sticker off. Read on some forum somewhere that this would be ok.

PS Be prepared to wait a while to get any cash back

Dear Mark,

Thank you for your cashback inquiry.

Due to an overwhelming response to the promotion we are currently processing a large amount of applications.

Please check back with us in the next 10 to 15 days and I will be glad to research this for you.

I apologise for this delay
Regards,
Gabriel

Yes I just cut all 3 out, I would imgine they are very busy with this, I would have liked to get the 70-200 F2.8 IS aswell whilst the offer was on but have spent enough at the moment.

They don't rush. I've had my lens a few weeks now and just had an e-mail to say my cashback will be processed in the next 20 days with a contact addy if I hear nothing in that time.

just send the sticker with the serial number on it, worked everytime for me.

I manage to pul lthe sticker off and stick it to the receipt.
I am now at the point of receiving the email stating they have my order, but no money as yet.

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum so I hope you don't mind me butting in.

I bought a 400d and a lens, and just photocopied the serial number on the boxes. They accepted that as I received a cheque for £83 last week. It took about 4 weeks though.

Sharon

Ps great forum by the way, you all seem very friendly and helpful.

OMG that means you could try and claim it loads of times.
Send off a copy of your receipt and the photocopy of the barcode and get another £83.
Im amazed they allowed that !!!

I'm kinda annoyed they allowed that, given I cut a wopping great hole in my 70-300IS box :(

Nice idea but I'm sure they check each serial number hasn't already been subject of a Cashback claim. ;)

You have to wonder then why they don't just say send a photocopy and save us all having chunks out of our equipment boxes??

LOL. Fair comment.

In the USA it's instance cash back.

May 19, 2007 -- Cameratown -- Canon this week announced an INSTANT cash back offer on select EOS Lenses. This offer is valid from May 17, 2007 through July 17, 2007. Unlike mail-in rebate offers this program provides authorized Canon retailers with cash back discounts, allowing them to lower their pricing through the promotion period. This cash back offer is valid on the following Canon EOS lenses.

Just peel off the sticker i cut as hole in my 400d box and was gutted when i found out about the peeling method

It was an on-line submission and I posted everything to Canon, re-sent my invoice which has the serial numbers on but it looks like I'm not getting the £163 they owe me.

I had been told that they are poor at honouring the cash back in the past.

Do you have copies of everything ?
I was going to send mine in by recorded delivery, now I am definately going to.

I'm affraid the address is a PO box so I'm not sure you can do recorded delivery:thumbsdown:

I did not have copies, so I've just re-submitted , printed the form, scanned it and then e-mailed it off to Canon.

Fingers Crossed

Sorry to bring this back up but the other thread has just reminded me.
I asked in the post office and was told it can be sent recorded to a PO box but because its in Ireland it would cost £4.00.
Not a lot of use to most people now I know because most will have been sent I would imagine

Just an update on my cash back saga.

The cheque has arrived :) I must say how very helpful Gabriel at canon service was.

That definitely rates a dancing banana!!
