I'm after a couple of spare batteries for my 30D.

Is there any additional benefit of the 511a other than capacity ?

If not I'll just go for the cheaper 511.

Anyone out there looking to offload any ?

Cheers.

I can only say that I've been happy with the offerings from 7dayshop which have performed faultlessly for the last 4 years. You can get higher capacity third party batteries - but I've not tried any as yet.

Yep get yourself onto 7dayshop.com and grab a couple of their higher capacity versions, you won't regret it!

I got a couple for my 50D and at roughly £7 each I deem it money well spent!

Cheers guys.

Only asking cos I'd just received a £3d party one from ExPro for £8 through Amazon and it was showing on camera as only part charged despite showing fully charged on charger.

I've returned it and await a replacement.

7dayshop it is though for my next one

Batteries showing fully charged on the charger and not in the camera is often down to dirty or worn contacts if you rub them lightly with a pencil and then use the eraser head to clean them up it usually sorts this out, both on the batteries and the charger pins.

3rd party batteries often have better quality contacts than the Canon ones, and the BP 511A are certainly a better finish than the plating on the original BP 511s

Hope that helps.

I've found performance can improve after a few cycles, maybe cycling could also cure the display discrepancy.

7DayShop offer best bang for buck at the moment.

I own a couple Energizer ones which I personally think are better than Canon originals, but last I checked they're end of line. :(
