Hello, would like some advice and help from the forum (sorry its another what should i upgrade to question).

I currently own a 40D. I take a lot of landscape, city, low light, macro and pet portrait pictures. I have the canon 24-105L (who doesnt?), 100mm L macro and 17-40mm L lenses.

I'm serioulsy considering the 5d mark II or the canon 6d, budget around £1400. I know its impossible to rate the 6d at the moment but i was thinking it sound be as good picture quality as the 5d mark II looking at the specs with the added bonus of wifi for a similar price when it gets released on digital rev.

Would you consider any other cameras in my situation? Is the mark III worth looking at? (Im not sure i would need the extra AF point)

Any help would be much appreciated.

If I was prepared to spend the extra then I'd consider the 5DIII but only because I would use it for landscapes as well as use the AF for wildlife.

I currently have a 40D and 1D mk2 and plan on swapping the 40D for a 5DII for landscapes and just keep the 1D mk2 for it's AF on wildlife.

5DII market appeals to me over the 6D but would also look at 1DS mark II

Welcome to the forum Stephen. TBH I'd recommend saving the extra for the 5D3 rather than the 5D2. The MkII is a good camera but compared to the MkIII it's a bit dated. For low light the MkIII is amazing where the MkII is a bit better than the normal. I have a MkIII and a 7D and while the 7D is really good for macro it hardly ever gets the 100 f2.8 macro put on as the MkIII is so much better.

You never know what you might end up shooting in the future but the 5D MkIII for me is my go to body for everything really, the 7D gets very little use compared.

As has been said already, if you can stretch to the 5D mk3 then go for it. It could be thought of as the best of the 5D mk2 and 7d mashed together then improved.

Saying that though, I much prefer the mk2 to the 7d for high iso / low light, to my eyes it's a big improvement. If you did go for the 5d mk2 rather than the mk3 the differemce could go a long way towards a f2.8 lens, or maybe the 135mm f2 for your pet portraits. :)

Thank you for replying everybody.

I should be able to stretch to the mark iii with a bit of help from the wife! :-) I also like to go to the odd F1 gp so the mark iii would help with this!

Does anybody have suggestions on what flash gun to get?

Why not buy a 5dII and keep your 40d for the odd F1. I still rate my 40d very highly and for that reason I have kept it as back up.

5d3 is a big leap up in terms of money. Ill most likely make that jump after your comments above.

Might even consider selling the 17-40L to get a 70-200 F4 L. being a FF camera im thinking the 24-105 should be more than wide enough. What do you think?

I should be able to stretch to the mark iii with a bit of help from the wife! :-)

Will she help with an additional £400 or so? If she would then you can afford a 5D3 from Panamoz using bank transfer...

I'd go 5D3 too, as said its a 5D2/7D mashup, a lot to be said for it and with Magic Lantern in full development it will just get more and more features too.

I presume you're planning to import (£1840 from Panamoz after 5% off), which seems to be the way most people buy now as its so much cheaper and only a lens sale over budget.

Edit: lol, digital you beat me to it :)

Not a big a leap as you might think if you buy from Hong Kong.. Panamoz have some fantastic prices on the 5d3
the 3 lenses you mention I have owned all 3 but I guess its down to what focal length you use most and what camera you finally buy

if you go full frame 24mm is far wider than on the crop bodies - at the moment 24mm is as wide as I have got and do sometimes miss the even wider shots but my Canon 24-70mm is easily my most used lens but your not in the market for one of those

the 70-200mm F4 is a really superb lens for the money and cannot say anything bad about it
I have the F2.8IS version but the F4 is a really fine Lens in its own right

I did not like my 24-105mm lots of people Love it - I didn't and would never get another... and my Canon 24-70mm is far better

so take your pic.. no doubt others will jump in and give an opposing view to mine
I only give advice on Lenses which I have owned a lot of people jump in giving there opinions on what they have read elsewhere and never actually owned or used them

is is probabaly for a different thread bu ill ask anyway.

Never heard of Panamoz. I presume they do the some sort of things with import tax as digital rev? What is the service like?

awesome, thank you!

Sorry i was really lazy on that one. Should have looked myself.
