Canon Body upgrade advice

Hello Gang

So the story goes on I can't afford the repair of the hot shoe on my old D60(yes Canon D60) as I paid less than £100 for the body, so I am going to keep it as a spare day camera body, I am thinking 10D for a replacment so I can use all the external flash gear I have bought but my Lenses will work on both bodies right?

Sigma 28-50mm and 70-210 apsherical both were listed as only working with D30 & D60 but if i'm reading the reviews right the 10D still uses EF lenses right?

And I guess mabe £150 is about right for a reasonable 10D body only?

I think all the EF lenses work on the 10D as far as I am aware its the EFS that wont work,nice to see someone whi is happy upgrading to older kit rather than the urge to get the very latest release
 
Hi CP

I was more than happy with my D60 a great body and 6.3 crop is more than enough for great photo's IMHO so the 10D is just a little better with 7 point focus and better transfer rates and type II CF memory, seems a great way to start to slowly upgrade rather than pimping for the best and not being able to get the best from it....lol

I Think you may find that the sigma lenses which are listed as working with only d30 and d60 will not function properly with a 10d, this is due to some changes made by canon and the sigma reverse engineering not being fully compatable. The issue is normally stopping the apature.
 
I'm not buying or selling anything strictly advice I am seeking.

All ef lenses will work perfectly with all Canon EOS cameras including the film versions if they are genuine Canon lenses, all ef-s lenses will work perfectly with 20D (1.6 cropped) bodies onwards (but wont fit 1.3 or FF sensor bodies).

All genuine Canon Flash units should work in one of the various modes Canon have introduced over the years, A-TTl, E-TTL, E-TTL 2 etc,
forward compatability may be an issue, backwards wouldnt/shouldnt be (although it can be a problem).

Lenses made by a 3rd party e.g. Sigma may not be forward compatable e.g. I had a Sigma lens that worked on my 10D but not on my 50D, it fitted OK but certain functions didnt work and sometimes it just locked the body up (Err 99).

The only way to be sure your Sigmas work is to fit them to the body and test them, I would say that goes for the flashguns too, are they Canon or someone else's make?

I guess as you say try and borrow a body and test would be best just need to find someone with a 10D, the Hot shoe on my D60 was burnt out by a third party China gun, I bought a new YN-465 from Flash in the pan only to find the body now faulty hence the need for a replacment body.

You selected NSFW when starting the thread. It stands (as I said earlier) that it is Not Safe For Work, implying its not the sort of thing you'd want work colleages to see - usually nudes or grisely photography.
 
There is a little drop down next to the thread title when you make a new thread that you can select NSFW from - you probably did that by mistake

With regard to the camera, the 10D will work just fine, although if you look around for a 20D you can pick them up for £150-£175 these days. They don't improve massively on the 10D but the AF and the addition of spot metering is a bonus. In days past I moved from a 10D to a 20D and definitly felt the benefit.

I did the 10D to 20D upgrade and I use it today (as my backup camera!) and it's pin sharp, bit slow on auto focus but other than that, it's a brilliant camera.

I've considered selling it for a 7D or 5D Mk2 but I don't think I will when I can get

Plus, that has had no sharpening but I did use my 300mm f2.8 lens :lol:

If you've a limited budget, get a 20D to start with!!!!!

If your d60 has PC sync port, then you can still use the flash in strobist mode (via wireless triggers).

Other than than you will have to start slowly upgrading lenses and get new body. 20D with 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 USM would make sense on a tight budget (from £250) for a start.

P.S. I was really hoping to see something interesting in this thread.
