Has anyone else seen or been caught out by the batteries being sold on ebay that come in a canon package but are fakes ???? . I just ordered one unknowing it was fake but when it hadnt turned up i looked around at peoples reviews ( a little late i know ) then i saw these are fake. I contacted the seller asking him if they are copies and he said they were and i said well why dont you advertise as such, his reply was i have zoom on my pictures ..... Cant trading standards not do something about these people??

I don't think trading standards can do a lot about this problem. Even though they state on the listing they are sent from within the UK most of them are supplied from abroad anyway. There have been a lot of cons/scams on ebay recently, it's that time of year I suppose, and these sellers are doing all they can to make a fast buck. If it states in the listing that it's a genuine Canon battery then raise a dispute with ebay/paypal, but if it doesn't state specifically there's not a lot you can do, even if it's a non genuine in a Canon box. Very annoying I know but you need to check and re-check these listings for any dubious descriptions.

On a more positive note, I've got a good few non genuine batteries off ebay for my 5D3 and 7D, both use Lp-E6, and the wifes 650D and they all work excellently. I've never had a problem with any of them, I must have over a dozen altogether, and average between £3 and £6 each.

Thats the thing Stuart i saw a load of obvious copies and were advertised as such and prices were cheap but i heard they dont hold the charge too well even if they are ok as a back up, but i saw these in a canon box with canon on the battery and guess what i thought they were canon. And im sure canon would like to know that there are people selling products with their brand name on.

Im sorry to hear you plight. Just make sure that your feedback reflects your experience.

Do you have a link to them? Might help others avoid being caught out. ;)
If he's knowingly selling fakes then Ebay need to sort him out.

I've been caught out in the past. I bought a 'genuine' Canon batt, all the packaging looked genuine, but it didn't hold it's charge. I found out that a possible reason was that it was genuine, but was a reject from Canon, that found it's way into the market place. I sent it back without a problem, but it adds a layer of complexity around this issue. From now on, I only buy from rep sources (WEX etc), as that's the surest way of getting the right thing. Yes, they are more expensive, but just add your time and effort in having to buy, try and return a slightly cheaper battery and there's not much in it.

It seems it's not only the world's dustbin that's plagued with fakes, they've also been sold on Amazon!
Here's a link where someone's kindly added photos showing the differences between real and fake ones.
