Hello all you lovely Canon experts out there I wonder if you can help me, I have just purchased a Canon 400mm F 5.6 EF lens and a 1.4 extender to use with an adaptor on my Sony A7II , the autofocus works fine with the lens alone,
but not with the extender as you would expect, some years ago I owned a Canon 10D and a Canon 100-400 lens and a 1.4 extender which I was able to get to work just fine using a little trick with a bit of tape covering a couple of the connecting pins
I'd like to try this again but can not remember which pins to cover, I'd appreciate any help I can get please.

Cheers Bob

at what aperture are you trying to autofocus and what adapter do you own?

From memory you tape the last two pins on the RHS when the contacts are facing you.
Best of luck , I got it to work with a 100-400 on a 5Dc but not on a 7D, it does seem a bit hit and miss

Thanks Chris I'll give it a try, if it doesn't work manual focus is no great hardship using focus peaking

Hi again, just given it a try and its a no go, worth a try but as I said before it's not a problem.

Thanks again.

I have 7D and 6D and just need to tape up the first 3 pins for it to work

Thank you Mark, this webpage looks very familiar I'm pretty sure it's where I saw this in the first place,
Ive done the mod and it works a treat, it's a nice bright morning so I've been having a play, adjusted the steady shot setting on the camera to 600mm and am amazed I can actually hand hold it,
Family commitments mean I can't get out today but hopefully tomorrow.
Once again thank you very much for your help.
